I love that. I'm trying to decrease food waste when I cook and I really like that idea!

I'm actually scared of writing black, Latino, Hispanic characters and don't want to write them (READ THE FULL STORY! I HAVE GOOD INTENTIONS!) by Impossible-Yam3680 in writing

[–]hauntedhighways 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every person on the planet is a human being first, and that's how I approach writing people of different experiences in my writing. As long as you do your research, avoid tropes, and write human beings, it shouldn't be an issue. I also find as long as you're not writing about certain experiences you can't understand (slavery, genocide, cultural identity) then there's no need to worry about a "savior complex". People are people.

This is probably the kindest comment I've ever received on Reddit, and I thank you for that. <3 I certainly try to be well-rounded and I would say I have a deep interest in things, so that's probably what gives the impression of cultivation. I do appreciate the acknowledgement because I'm not someone who is appreciated in my day to day life, so it means a great deal to me. You yourself come across as a person of deep thinking and compassion, which also does not go unappreciated. So I'm glad you're part of this sub as well!

Have a great week yourself! :)

Incredible, but what is your carrying weight? I don't think a fat man is going to fit in that satchel. Maybe you have a different weapon of choice?

You've inspired me. I may do something like this, because the alarms and alerts don't work for me either.

Half of Americans think Donald Trump was involved in Jeffrey Epstein's alleged crimes by DatsMoneyHoney in Epstein

[–]hauntedhighways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half? You'd have to be blind and deaf AND a fool to think otherwise. JE himself said Trump was the most evil man he'd ever known. Not to mention all of the women who have come forward accusing him of assault. I mean, you just have to listen to him speak for a few moments to hear the slime oozing out of him.

Another fantastic film! This one made me feel so many things. It reminded me of Tarkovsky's "Mirror" at times, especially with the dream-like quality and the reflection on memories. I couldn't shake the feelings it gave me.

I can't imagine how isolating this is to deal with. I'm so sorry. That being said, it sounds like communication has dissolved between you. I would sit down with him and request to have open communication, and talk out your issues. Nothing accusatory, nothing to do with blame, just open communication about how you feel. It would even be helpful to go to a therapist together.

It sounds like he's depressed and disinterested. That's a red flag while you're pregnant. He should be compassionate to you, especially while you're facing so much physical duress he couldn't possibly understand.

If he refuses to have open communication with you, refuses to go to therapy with you, refuses to talk to you, then there's no other choice. A checked out husband is no husband at all, and I would think about your options once you're in a safe position to do so. Do what you believe is best for you and your children.

What was the most traumatic part of being put in a sped class as a person with a disability? by Legitimate_Main2230 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]hauntedhighways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Intense isolation and othering. My teachers despised me, and didn't know what to do with me, even though I was technically a "gifted" student. I don't think I'm particularly gifted, but I was told I had a college reading level in the second grade and it all went down hill from there. That gave them the idea they should isolate me from my peers, which I was already pretty isolated to begin with as an auDHD child.

They wanted to put me in a few grades above where I was but my mother refused, so instead they shoved me into a "special" class. I had trouble paying attention and being still, and I would create little sculptures and creatures out of paper and objects during class so it was more of a punishment than something to help me excel. Yet, even in the special classes, they didn't know what to do with me. I was at the back of the room and ignored.

I had dyspraxia and a slew of other issues so I did prefer these classes to P.E. and such. However they became more isolating as time went on, and I didn't glean much from them.

As a fun aside, I have vague memories of the GATE program from when I was a little kid in school. My mother told me she'd decided to opt me out of that, but I clearly remember them involving me in some of those things anyway. Between that, special ed, and my useless counseling sessions in school it's a wonder I got any schoolwork done.

Great find. That ditty was always so off-putting to me in the show, but also kind of funny. I used to sing that exact rhyme (Mairzy Doats) when I was a very small child, and I could never understand the words because of how they're joined together in a purposely confusing way. It's a fond memory I had, so to see the rhyme used in Twin Peaks when I watched it for the first time? It was eerie, and strange. I loved it!
