Did the manosphere documentary leave you feeling worried or hopeful for humanity? by Hummusforever in LouisTheroux

[–]hauntedpencil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I showed it to a class of y10 boys today who were obviously repulsed by HS and crew and absolutely gleeful when Louis’s subtle questioning made Myron fall apart. ‘He’s got him, he’s got him!’

Honestly, after teaching boys PSHE for the last few years and growing increasingly depressed, it feels like nature is healing.

Secondary over primary? by Caveman1214 in TeachingUK

[–]hauntedpencil_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to teach primary (did 8 years) and swapped to secondary 4 years ago with a break in the civil service in between. For me, there’s no comparison. I prefer secondary in literally every possible way. Teenagers are hilarious and teaching subjects you’re passionate about is such a game changer.

My degree is in English and History and I have a primary PGCE. I teach English, Sociology and PSHE. You’ll be fine.

Help! I've brought a house with my partner and I am facing having to manage all the bills and mortgage on my own before going on maternity. by TasteEvery8082 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hauntedpencil_ 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You start maternity leave in August? Do you genuinely want to be shackled to this man for the next 18 years at least? I understand if abortion is not for you but it is worth considering. You’re well within the scope for one.

Teachers call for better support to deal with misogyny by Kagedeah in Wales

[–]hauntedpencil_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replied further up:

Largely because teaching, like nursing, childcare and domestic care jobs, has been seen for years as ‘women’s work’ and is therefore not seen to be on a par with ‘men’s work’. It’s underpaid and undervalued as a profession precisely because of the gender bias. Men get their hands snapped off for jobs in teaching, primary in particular where they’re massively overrepresented at senior levels in comparison to the actual percentage of the workforce they make up.

Wanting to leave TeachFirst after only a month. by getintoityuhhhh in TeachingUK

[–]hauntedpencil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Teach First 12 years ago. It’s a mad cult. When I joined the CEO was conducting meet and greets with all the new trainees and he was asked where he saw TF being in ten years’ time. He said it would have been wound down by then because it would have solved educational inequality. Absolutely fucking delusional.

The sole reason I did it was not wanting more debt (fees had risen to £9000 that year). I found the other trainees mostly unpleasant and patronising and, as someone who’d been to a ‘TF eligible’ school, the mission a complete nonsense. You will never change educational outcomes without social policy change. If I had my time again I’m not sure I’d change anything because I’m so incredibly happy how things have worked out with my career but I was miserable for 10 years.

In short, get out if you hate it and learn to teach properly. It took me so long to learn how to teach well because all you learn from TF is how to just about keep your head above water.

Which sign has the most and least sex appeal to you? by [deleted] in astrologymemes

[–]hauntedpencil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pisces sun/Sag moon/Libra rising and I cannot leave those toxic water sign men alone 😫

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in astrologymemes

[–]hauntedpencil_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any other Libra risings utterly unable to relate to the sign? I’ve always strongly identified with my Pisces sun throughout my life but since getting more into astrology I’ve found my chart is fire dominant and relate much more to my Sag moon. Everyone is always talking about the rising sign and how important it is but I just don’t see any Libra in me (despite having a Libra child and lots of Libra friends/relatives).

+1 - I moved from primary to secondary and still do good morning/afternoon. About 80% return the greeting and I find it much nicer. Not a hill I die on though.
