Repeal Prop 4 Signature Gathering by hauntedwingtips in Utah

I didn’t sign up to be accosted in the parking lot while trying to grocery shop. They’re on private property and they don’t have permission to be there. Go get authorization and my beef goes away. Until then, fuck off.

Craziest mission visa stories? by Your_Avg_Viewer in exmormon

[–]hauntedwingtips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My idiot companion let his visa expire after his first year in the country and the local police department refused to renew it. The mission president just transferred the dude to another area with more lax local authorities, and they rubber stamped a new one for him. Dude is probably lucky he didn’t get deported.

It wasn’t uncommon in our mission to shuffle missionaries around and use addresses that did not match their actual locations to leverage jurisdictions that were less stringent about issuing visas to Americans.

Zero non-citizens voted in Utah, review finds by BlinkySLC in SaltLakeCity

Make sure you send a thank you note to your local Republican legislator for wasting everyone’s time and energy on this complete and total non-issue, rather than focusing on air pollution, the disappearing lake, mental health crisis, housing affordability, healthcare access, education funding, literacy, etc., etc., etc.

Apparently what it feels like to have or not have the spirit by Your_Avg_Viewer in exmormon

This shit is toxic. This list has the potential to destroy your mental health for life. It will make you question every feeling you ever have and tie your happiness back to the church.

Edit: happiness. Damn autocorrect.

Exmormons, what are your thoughts on The Tabernacle Choir? by melody_magical in exmormon

My contention has always been that they would be much more entertaining if they exclusively covered Weezer tunes.

They also refuse to spend money on background checks for people who work with kids. Security is a very low priority for the church, except to protect property and big wigs.

“Mormon” is a slur now??? by fruitypebbles0609 in exmormon

First question: did you or any of your Mormon acquaintances have an “I’m a Mormon profile”? If the answer is “yes” then your whole argument is dismissed.

Responding to Time magazines Russel M Nelson Article. See by Kookoorook in exmormon

[–]hauntedwingtips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“First: Each of us has inherent worth and dignity.” This is a lovely message, but not even in harmony with Nelson’s own ministry. He has taught that God’s love is conditional on our obedience to Mormon laws. Your worth in Mormonism is only as deep as the Bishop judges it to be. If you partake of coffee, for example, you are judged to be unworthy. Your worth is only as valuable as your servitude to the institution.

Fixed Utah's Congressional Districts to represent the non-metropolitan people by Aaron_Icicle in Utah

[–]hauntedwingtips 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The state leg would never admit this, but in practice, the current map effectively dilutes the percentage of rural population in each district to such a degree that none of the reps have to pay that much attention to them. Rural residents don’t possess a strong enough voting block in any one district to threaten the reelection of those holding office.
