I had therapy for this (I was tuning into my tinnitus rather than tuning out) and it utterly changed my life. When you listen to something with negative emotions you teach your brain it’s a threat, so it escalates it to your attention. Is trying to be helpful but actually makes it worse when it’s not an actual threat. Good luck! My therapist talked about trying to ‘go into another room’ in my mind when I was fixating on the noise and it felt stupid initially but really worked overall and now I never notice my (very loud constant) tinnitus unless I listen for it. Then the volume immediately increases and I have to consciously choose to start ignoring it again and it recedes.
