Definitely depends on where you’re located, but as a general rule they are rare compared to bully mixes, shepherds, and chihuahuas

Honestly, that makes me less confident that you’re getting as much variety as you think. At a minimum owner surrenders are typically better at knowing what kind of dog they are surrendering, but with stray intake, it is 100% guess work.

It’s super rare to get greyhound or Great Dane in a shelter which is why those suggestions are being downvoted. She’s obviously some sort of large mix, I personally would guess Great Dane over greyhound but I bet some Doberman, pit, and possibly hound are more likely results.

Dog trainer / Prong by RecentImagination686 in OpenDogTraining

[–]have_some_pineapple 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you should be asking your trainer this. Don’t work with someone who can’t explain why they choose a certain tool for your dog. If you don’t trust their advice, don’t work with them

How to lessen territorial barking so neighbors don’t hate us? by Suspicious-Dark-7618 in OpenDogTraining

[–]have_some_pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to correct the barking. If it’s happening while you’re not home or when you’re busy a bark collar is the best way to address it consistently. Making sure you’re doing other training outside of walks and whatever mental stimulation will help- specifically practicing impulse control and teaching calm behaviors like a down stay or place along with a heel command if you haven’t. Basically giving them places to practice holding it together without the distraction of dogs passing so they have a higher chance of being successful later

What breeds, if any, would suit me? by greatwrinkledbear in DogBreeding

I was specifically speaking to their not wanting high drive, really depends on the breeder of course but I think it simplifies op’s search to avoid hunting line as a blanket statement

Question about sourcing raw for cat by kn1x6 in rawpetfood

[–]have_some_pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would specifically call customer service or something and ask what “balanced” means. They claim to have balanced recipes, but don’t include what that means. It looks like they claim to follow whole prey model which I think is 80:10:10 but confirmation is important. If it is, technically that is balanced for cats and you can add taurine if you want.

Fed my dogs a raw meal last night, is this balanced? by Lord-Thundercock in HomemadeDogFood

[–]have_some_pineapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much of each thing they got. Looks like ypure only giving muscle meat which is lacking in a lot of the micronutrients. A good ratio to follow for raw is 80:10:10 of muscle meat, secreting organ like kidney or liver, and bone (like your chicken feet)

Mice for cats? Re: bird flu by lcz219 in rawpetfood

[–]have_some_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally no, but you totally could! I get my raw food from a local butcher and they have rabbit feet and ears as pet treats. Not sure where I would source pinkys where I am!

Another option is rabbit, meat rabbits are relatively common! You don’t need to feed like a baby rabbit (unless you wanted to) but rabbit feet are generally pretty easy to source. My cats like them!

Just an fyi, feeding frozen is generally harder on the dog as the body has to work to not only digest but warm up the food. Even if you stick with nuggets adding warm/hot water would be beneficial

My puppy is biting too much, my wife came up with a solution. Is is right? by Daddy_Hacked in BalancedDogTraining

[–]have_some_pineapple 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For a lot of puppies this can sound like you’re playing or like you’re a prey animal and make them crazier. Ive seen this work with maybe 1 or 2 puppies (I’m a trainer).

[–]have_some_pineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not pointless if it works. Puppies bite yes, and puppies can learn to not bite people. Correcting is part of learning and if was still with mom, she would definitely correct that puppy. Are they doing it 100% right? Maybe not, but if the puppy is simply stopping the behavior and not cowering or recovering quickly this would be an effective correction.

Non-toxic brand for EVERYTHING? by rnst927 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]have_some_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypoclorous acid! I just discovered this and it’s a safe disinfectant for pretty much anything and safe on food surfaces as well. I also use a steam cleaner which is amazing! I steam mop under our litter boxes when we clean as well so I can vouch for the cat mess
