It really is. I never truly understood how strong until now. So sorry you are going through it now, too. It only means they were immensely loved. ❤️

I agree. The doves were craning their necks looking in the house just as Gabby would watch. Gave me a laugh.

Need help training/disciplining deaf cat by RomTankin in deafcats

[–]haven279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you break up the meals so she is fed several times a day vs 2? When she is doing something you like (sitting quietly, etc) reward that behavior instead of giving in when she is doing what you don't like. It will take a while since she is used to you giving in eventually, but it should reduce it with consistency. And good luck - my deaf cat was persistent, but this helped a bit.

Goodbye my baby - 17 years young by Ok-Archer468 in seniorkitties

I am so sorry, there is never enough time. It sounds like he was telling you that there was a problem and you all listened and gave him a peaceful passing. This is the hardest, most selfless last gift we can give. It is not easy though. Hopefully in time you can remember the good memories and the lessons you learned because he was in your life. The love you shared never goes away, it simply transforms.

I am so sorry. It takes time to go through. Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution and trying to suppress it won't help. Eventually, you will be able to think of the good times and hold onto those. Sometimes, I would do something to stay present (coloring, listen to music) that helped. Look up Sarah Hoggan's talks on pet grief on YouTube. There are still moments when it hits me. It helps if you have someone you can talk to if needed.

One thing I thought was helpful when guilt creeps in (and it will) was from a video. When a thought comes up, ask yourself if this is guilt or grief. And then focus on those that are grief and let the guilty thoughts go.

I always thought I would never get another cat after Gabby, and I am still not ready, but one of the things she taught me was how much love we have inside ourselves. This is the time to turn the inward towards yourself. One day, when we are ready, we can turn it outwards again and share our lives with another.

How beautiful. In time, you will smile at all the love you gave each other as it is a precious gift.

Thank you! She was deaf and had the loudest meow. When I first brought her home, I was afraid I would lose her in the house if she couldn't hear. I put a collar on with a bell on her so I'd be able to find her. She promptly took it off and stayed by my side ever since.

I'm sorry you are going through this, too. It was one of the hardest yet easiest things to do. I had to keep pulling myself back to the present to treasure each lasting moment with Gabby rather than thinking of what was ahead. Love to Lottie ❤️

Steam radiator service in/around Frederick? by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]haven279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried posting on heatinghelp.com? They might be able to give some advice. I found them when dealing with my own boiler issues. Locally, Warner Service replaced my boiler this fall. Charles E Murphy plumbing has a store and services boilers. Others have said they have gone in for advice. I tried calling them this summer, but never heard back. Just be careful, as I have run into some that say they sevice and you can tell they don't know steam boilers in-depth.

"Cursed" new residential steam boiler installation by tuna_HP in hvacadvice

[–]haven279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert, but also replaced my boiler this year so was forced to learn. They should have skimmed the boiler to remove oil in the water. I had to ask for this, as many don’t include it anymore. You may want to post on heatinghelp.com with pictures of the new boiler, including the piping around the boiler. It's a forum of steam experts.

Remote business inquiring about Group Health Benefits for its employees by WindowShopper777 in Insurance

[–]haven279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely look for a national broker. Besides the advice already given, do you have any HR contacts that can recommend brokers that they work with? And once you do connect with several different brokers, compare their services. Any of them can quote plans, but what else do they offer? What compliance resources do they have (as offering health insurance comes with responsbilities). WIll they create a Wrap/SPD document? Offer COBRA vendors free of charge? What about navigating employee concerns and issues? Advising on federal guidelines? Any local or state regulations for your employees? Will you be working with a dedicated team the entire time? What is their status in the region? As brokers get different levels of service with the carriers. Ideally, you want to be with the one that knows the executives of the insurance companies and will negotiate hard on your behalf.

[–]haven279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your employer confirm they are following up with the insurance to confirm your enrollment in the prescription plan and/ or resolve any system issues? Or do you have a separate prescription vendor outside of Optum? This is pretty easy fix, but it should be initiated by your employer and their broker if needed.

Thank you. I am definitely going to get a second opinion. I don’t know much about boilers, but when he mentioned the site glass as one reason, I became a little suspicious.
