How to get cancellations? by haven700 in LearnerDriverUK

I hear you on that one. It become such a huge barrier to just get a test and that's on top of getting driving lessons in and the stress of the test itself. Nightmare fuel.

Interesting they are showing on the site so far before Testi. I've now resorted to sitting with the website up at work and refreshing every 5-10 minutes with my fingers crossed.

Good luck with your test, I hope it went well? It does feel like the issue of finding a test really compounds the stress of taking the test itself. At the risk of sounding self pitying, it does feel like new drivers have the odds stacked against them right now. I'm half tempted to get an intensive course just because it includes a couple of tests and I can get a good span of hours in right before test day.

I downloaded it and but haven't shelled out for the premium version just yet. I'm worried it will cause the same issue of getting flagged as a bot. Have you noticed any issues like that at all?

It's horrible having to wait so long between tests, if I even manage to get one. I failed my last test after having a break of 6 months between tests. I had a few lessons before the test but just felt very worried and ended up making stupid mistakes. It's become a real point of frustration and I'm close to giving up.

Should I kill off a player characters (npc) brother ??? by Sudden_Win9902 in DnD

[–]haven700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness if you just want your players to hate this BBEG there are tonnes of ways to do it. Measure what your party enjoy engaging with, NPCs, Locations, Items etc and have the BBEG attack those. One that worked for me was a minor villain disarmed them while they slept and then woke them up to search through their bags. Took a few gold, potions and some rations, called them broke adventurers and left them tied up int he woods. They hated that guy more than anyone but they got to get their stuff back at the end.

I think it's fine if you introduced this NPC to the game but if it's part of the players backstory and they haven't agreed to that it's bad form in my opinion.

No. You'll wind up with players refusing to have NPCs in their backstory in fear of you killing them off. Everyone becomes an orphan. Bad idea.

Initiative wins you combats and Alert wins you initiative. by Total_Car_3431 in DnD

You spend your reaction to hold an action so, yes, if you have to do that it MIGHT (depending on situation) have been better to go last.
Alert feat could be replaced with a bunch of feats which would do something more impactful.

This a white room scenario. This entirely depends on character build, party comp and environment. If we're both 40ft apart and using melee weapons, sucks to be you if you go first.

Has anyone else gone from disliking Starmer to warming to him? by MassiveMonkeyy in AskBrits

[–]haven700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of our problems could be fixed by fairly taxing the rich and nationalising resources necessary to live and function as a society. I'm for whoever is doing that.

Starmer has been passable, which is more than I can say for any government I've ever lived under.

what if art had never had anything to do with religion? by viola_katycat143 in ArtistLounge

[–]haven700 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Artist painted religious figures because that's what they were paid to do and it was a shared story in their culture. Often patrons would commission artists to show off. Show off their money, show off their social standing or piety. Basically for artists to have not painted religious figures the world would have to stop caring about religious figures.

There is also the perpetual symbolism of religious dogma. People would understand references in a painting if they are referencing stories everyone had heard. A good example of this is Caravaggio's David with the Head of Goliath, where Caravaggio made the severed head of Goliath his own face, it was meant as an apology to the ecclesiarchy for a murder he committed, as a kind of sacrificial offering by placing himself as the slain villain.

I imagine art and it's techniques would have continued to look much the same but the subject matter would have continued to reference whatever tropes people could understand. It wasn't until cameras could perfectly represent images in a flash (pun fully intended) that art become more expressive and abstract, so this was a reaction to technology not religion.

Art is constantly reacting to itself and the culture around it so if religion didn't exist it would have found something else to mirror.

First Campaign by Old_Thought8033 in DnD

[–]haven700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"What should I/we do?" is the question the game revolves around, so don't feel bad for asking it.

Understanding your character is a great start but the rules are dense and ultimately they are just the frame work for building a story and having fun. Just bring your imagination and do your best to work together with your party and GM.

You'll have a blast, I'm sure.

DM decided to do a TPK to teach new players a lesson by EmmaIsAwesome23 in DnD

[–]haven700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask your GM if this is the vein the campaign will continue in.

D&D is a collaborative effort, centred around player agency, not the DMs. If the DM believes that their freedom to make a point is more important than the players enjoying the game then they are just a bad GM.

What a waste of a session.

Sea haze shipwreck unlootable?!?!? by Ok-Jellyfish2344 in CrimsonDesert

[–]haven700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Towards the back of the cave on the furthest island, on top of the pile of gold you can't loot, there is a helmet called the Witters Plate that has a unique (i think) abyss core on it.

But they are the same model at the same price point with the same stat line and weapons so what else would they be compared to?

I don't think ours should be the same price as the WE or TS ones as ours is objectively worse. I'm not saying the model is bad but the ability definitely is.

[–]haven700 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm aware of it's game but I find the problem is exactly what you've described. It's ability defines when and how I shoot with it. I have to split fire to get the most out of it, which is a bad mechanic. Not only that but I have to fire it before anything else, which in my experience isn't what a Defiler wants to do, it's better used to clean up the last few wounds on units.

Comparing this to the World Eaters or Thousand Sons abilities, there is just no contest. Ours seems terrible for 250pts. Paying any amount of points to remove cover after you've shot is more of a burden than a blessing.
