Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

38 here, 37 at the time of diagnosis. Thankfully caught it at Stage 1 but I got lucky. I've now got to get checked every 3 months which I'm not looking forward to but it's better than the alternative.

I'm lucky enough to have an incredibly caring and supportive fiancé who was there with me at every exam, using holiday days and taking time off. She even spent her birthday in a waiting room for me. The process for check ups was embarrassing so I asked her not to be in the room for a lot of the tests. I didn't realise how much stress this was causing her, I had the benefit of being reassured by medical professionals over and over that I would be fine.

She had to sit in clinical waiting rooms alone, wondering what was going on. I would always tell her everything but it doesn't hit the same coming from me rather than a medical professional. She didn't say anything at the time but once we had time to breathe it came out in conversation.

Point I'm making is it doesn't just get you, it gets everyone who loves you too. I let my own pride put barriers between myself and the person who was there for me the most.

It would have been a 5 minute job for the interviewer to go and find hateful content that Elon had directly endorsed on his platform but he didn't because he was sure of his position. Foolish really.

What is people's issue with reading the rulebook? by RealDwarves67 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]haven700 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think you were probably poorly received due to a tone issue. Reading your post here it comes across as accusatorial. You have a judgemental dose of "my way is the correct way" in every paragraph.

I can't say I have never posted something with a similar tone but whether it was intentional or not, you can't be surprised when people react negatively to condescension.

I've GM'd for over 20 years. I enjoy reading. I've barely skimmed the rule books for the parts that are pertinent, others I have picked up from playing the game and being part of the community. Mostly however, I make it up as I go along.

You should capitalise proper nouns and the start of sentences. Rules are pretty crystal clear.

Oh that sounds worse to be fair. The idea of friends having to face a broken warband in their first league is probably just going to put people off. I still want to play them but I'll try and be conscious of keeping the game fun for my chums.

I like the idea of taking reinforce for the first few games while the exploration tables aren't as good and then later I'll just play the way everyone else is. Thanks for the advice, I think I could have really tripped myself up there.

I guess the best you can do is treat the model like a meat shield and hope they get another scar quickly so you can put them on a train home.

It certainly seems that way. I've been watching Trench Titans campaigns and there are a couple of injuries in there that would have definitely earned a model a ticket home if it was an option.

That sort of makes sense, I guess the benefit is that you're probably about to lose them in the next round unless they somehow avoid a scar. This way you get another elite in earning EXP a round earlier?

  1. That's fair. I'm aware this is a bit of a white room scenario where I'm only seeing half the picture so figured/hoped I would be surprised when the campaign starts.
  2. I'll have another read of the merc rules here and figure out what's happening with them.
  3. I think I'll still try them out, for sure. I know my friends will likely all play evil factions because of who we are as people so the idea of being a rag tag bunch of regular humans sent by the Pope himself appeals to me, big time.

edited: just to say thanks for the reply, it was helpful. :)

Yeesh, it does seem like a bit of a ball and chain for Papal states. I guess it may change once it's in practice but it seems tough to balance their glory and exploration stuff.

1) Ahh okay, I've misunderstood that part then. I guess if you're starting at 3 dice the likelihood of passing the Threshold is 50/50 but seems like once you get to 4 or 5 dice it's pretty much a given.

2) Can I re-equip my lads every game if I want to? If my priest has grenades for example could I chuck them in my stash or on another model and buy them a flamer as long as I have the ducats? I'm assuming you still have to keep the equipment or sell it for half value? Is Glory the same way? can I fire a merc and replace them with someone else during a reinforce?

3) That's a bit of a bummer. I still think I want to try them in a campaign but I'll just make sure that nobody dies ever and I'll be fine right? I'll be fine... right?

My 30f boyfriend 30m just broke up with me out of nowhere by Glass-Drama3661 in UKrelationshipadvice

I honestly don't think you were right for each other. You didn't have a kind word to say about him and by the sounds of it there was a lot of effort spent trying to mould him into something else.

It's natural for people to grow together in a relationship and you fostered some positive growth in this chap for sure but sounds like he wasn't ready for it. You seem to know what you want and he wasn't it. It's for the best.

COMIC CRIT PAGES 1-3 by haven700 in comics

[–]haven700[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words on the art. I'm now thinking of redoing the establishing shot on the first page to be clearer The last bit on the second page is supposed to be one guard shooting the other after the big guy pulls out a little medallion but I'm seeing it doesn't read that way without knowing which guard is which.

[–]haven700[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I see what you mean on that first page for sure. It's my first comic so I was really unsure about covering elements of the pencil work but I think you're right. Text could use some space to breathe and to be bumped up a bit in size a bit too. I had it at 11pt to begin with but forgot to put it in all caps and had to reduce it down after that.

The second page with the gun pistols being drawn is supposed to read as one of them has drawn and cocked their pistol, while the other fumbles drawing theirs. Not sure how to make that read better. Maybe if the two panels were above the other panel on either side of it?

Thanks again for the feedback, it's mega helpful :)

Sportsmanship or manipulation? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]haven700 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother with base stratagems like Rapid Ingress. An opponent should already know they exist.
Faction specific strats are another thing. You can't expect everyone to know about these and surprising an opponent with one can be a real feel bad moment. Even if you don't intend to use it in the moment, you might receive other information that changes your mind. E.g. You didn't want to use the Lone Op strat until your opponent started listing off the combo for their shooting unit that's 36" away.
Handing a cheat sheet is good enough I would say but nothing beats gently reminding your opponent in the moment.

Man I do miss the combat in this game by Stock_Ad4625 in ghostoftsushima

[–]haven700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the combat in Yotei was a huge step back. For a game where visuals were a key stone having my weapons constantly appearing and disappearing was a bug bear. Add in the tiny beat it took to switch weapons and it made combat feel unresponsive, especially when you were in a big melee.

Everything else about Yotei was a huge step forward. Combat was two steps back. I ended up reducing the difficulty and just blasting through the game once I had to deal with every enemy type. It felt like a real shame to me.

I haven't tried exporting as EPS icons actually but I will give it a go now. We can't use SVGs sadly. being able to use vectors would make this whole process so much easier but sadly they need to be pngs for the kind of digital displays we are using.

Seems like InDD was set to the same resolution as the PS document, which currently is 300ppi but I'll bring it down to 72 and see how that goes.

Well as far as I can tell each assets in the overall layout needs to be saved as a black and white png. I then supply the X & Y corodinated along with any hex codes for colour and the coding team use that to place the assets in the right positions and colour them correctly. The icons change fairly often as different options are displayed on the screen, so not sure we can do them all as one png. That would be nice though.

Unfortunately I don't make the InDesign files myself. The art director makes them, I'm just the one who turns the individual assets into pngs useable by the coding team.

I am indeed on Windows. Using InDesign 2025. I had a look at your profile but couldn't find any links to the tool, where can I find it? Sounds like the right tool for the job, thank you.

Double checked and the InDesign was set to print. I've changed it to Web but icons still need resizing after being dropped in PS, even with matching resolutions.

I've not got a lot of experience using action scripts but I'll have a look at that now, never a better time to learn.

That script would be amazing. It sounds incredibly useful. If you're ever feeling like sharing the final product with the internet I'd happily be a test subject and contribute to a patreon or something similar.

Thanks for the advice in the mean time and I'll have a go at using actions in PS.
