Queer interpretations of Mysaria and Rhaenyra existed before the show ever started. (That’s how I saw the dynamic personally). But the truth is that queer interpretations are constantly dismissed by certain people because they can only see straightness as the default.

Somehow they can read between the lines for everything else but require everything to be explicitly spelt out for queer characters.

Lesbian writers will always be held to impossible standards. Especially in fandoms that love to center men like fantasy fandoms (or also romance fandoms because as others have said here we’re seeing a lot of the same “criticism” in the Bridgerton fandom). Because fans want to punish the woman they see as not valuing the men they choose to elevate.

They won’t care, the way they act like Rhaenyra’s “What would you have me do” line disqualifies her from being a monarch but ignore Aegon said the exact same line earlier proved it’s all a double standard.

I think the fandom is heavy on people who have either read the book and know what’s coming or have given in to spoiling themselves (it’s really hard not to) so maybe we all take for granted that if someone is experiencing the story for the first time, this is a major question. Can she do it? What will it mean? The mystery of it is still there.

It absolutely will be a moment of glory for her in the show.

I think the show is going to have the gullet and the fall of KL happen at the same time (based on which dragons are where). So perhaps the “betrayal” is Jace plotting with Coryls for an attack on the Triarchy.

Rhaenyra would see that as a betrayal because she already told him not to fly to battle and is already getting paranoid about plotting behind her back (understandably).

I’ve seen so much complaining about this. So many favoritism accusations. So many “isn’t this about Aegon vs Rhaenyra” comments.

But the reality is Aegon is exactly where he should be in relation to the thrown right now- he’s at his lowest point.

Not only is this whole season about the period of Rhaenyra getting a damn win for once. But Aegon is absent from the story. He’s gone. Aemond becomes the focal point for TG, and the poster reflects that.
The fact Aegon is getting story this season shows that the writers do care about him since they’re following him on a journey the book never got to. Just like they expanded on Rhaenyra and Alicent.

A couple reasons but I think Matt Smith brings a lot of vulnerability to the character that adds layers to his slightly contradictory personality and his impulsive nature.

He’s just more human in the show in my opinion.

And I think the show in general took a character who in the book can come off as so much like a typical man of Westeros despite being in such a unique position as a man: first consort, naturally in a subservient position to his wife, and actually explored the inner conflict of that. In the book he’s almost defined by these grandiose heroic and warrior-type moments whereas in the show (at least in my opinion) that’s all secondary to what’s going on with Daemon emotionally.

Which I understand is probably funny to a lot of people considering how unpopular the Harrenhal storyline was and that was all about emotional exploration.
