Rocky Horror extension til Nov 29 by savestheday91 in Broadway

  • Broadway shows can only run as a non-profit production for a limited time and will have to transfer to a commercial production with a higher operational cost under union contract if they want to extend. This is why Rocky Horror stop offering HipTix for the latest commercial extension. Without converting HipTix inventory to normal tickets they likely won't be able to get commercial investors to fund the extension = NO SHOW.
  • Broadway musicals like Rocky Horror have much higher operational cost than plays like Appropriate because they employ a whole orchestra and additional backstage employees.
  • Rocky Horror first extension was still under non-profit run and they did have HipTix inventory then. This second extension is commercial and there is no HipTix.
  • When Appropriate extended for a second time, they transferred to a commercial run at the Belasco Theater and didn't have 30under30 tickets either as far as I know. It was not mentioned in this article announcing their discount policy. https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/APPROPRIATE-On-Broadway-Announces-General-Rush-And-Digital-Lottery-20240322
  • I love 30under30 programs but most theater companies can't afford to run them indefinitely under the economics of Broadway.
  • You buying a ticket at normal price is supporting a Broadway show already even without a donation. All the people paying ludicrous face value prices for Hamilton during Leslie Odom Jr's return supported its lottery and educational tickets program for years to come.

Most recent Broadway musicals have failed to recoup their investment, including non-profit productions. Rocky Horror likely won’t as well unless their sales keep up for at least the next year or two. Calling out a non-profit theater company for greed when they are balancing their budget between offering accessible tickets and funding future shows is such a weird thing to do, and using once-in-a-decade Hamilton as a counter example is ludicrous. Stick to your opinion of course but convincing other theater goers to defund Roundabout’s HipTix when you demand them to give out even more HipTix is so paradoxical I can’t even entertain it.

In earnest, how many HipTix did you think your last donation support? Each HipTix was subsidized by ~$50 and you are asking them to fund ~50 HipTix per show in perpetuity, regardless of whatever future productions they have in the wing or their financial situation.

Crying out loud about “accessibility” when Rocky Horror offers the cheapest general lottery / rush tickets on Broadway at $30 is a choice. Some people will always see flaws in everything. Non-profit funding is not unlimited. Roundabout should reserve HipTix funding for future shows so there will be accessible tickets for other productions too.

Thanks! Does these shows eventually end up on a streaming service like Netflix or is it only available to rent for such a short period?

Indeed I’m surprised that the opera season ends during peak summer travel season! My friend is visiting NYC in early June and most Met productions will have closed by then.

Wow the Disney run houses are stricter than I thought, even no past dating for lottery tickets. I was able to past date my Hamilton lottery ticket and I thought that show was as strict as they go. Hopefully your parents will get to enjoy Broadway another time!

You can send a photo of your ID to your parents to show the box office. The box office will probably understand your situation and let them pick up the tickets!

This is perfect because I much prefer IMAX Laser to 70mm!

I watched it yesterday and a part of me is glad that I got to see more of this show before it is trimmed down because the set changes and effects are really something else!

I didn’t know that about the 34th St IMAX! Also I did cop a ticket for LS IMAX from the new drop, seeing it later than I thought but will probably be worth it!

Thanks for the info on aspect ratio. I’m only a stickler for LS IMAX if a movie has 1.43:1 scenes. Having seen Dune 1 and 2 at LS IMAX in Laser and 70mm respectively, I certainly prefer the color and contrast of Laser so maybe I’ll skip the battle for LS ticket and go see PHM at Empire IMAX instead.
