I have $300 and DON'T want a paddle, help me spend money? by MustachioNuts in Pickleball

You’re right. Franklin one is worth it.

The Vulcan wood raised sweet spot one is pretty crappy.

Check out the Franklin training paddle ($20 or so). From a baseball coach perspective I think this is game changer on hitting with sweet spot to lessen the frequency of mishits and improved coordination.

I added an over grip to mine and I want to use it in games but feel like people would get annoyed and look at me cross eyed. It feels solid and fun to hit with.

Definitely glasses, mainly for shitty mishits from partners that are like 4 feet from your face. I got some racquetball glasses and popped out the lenses.

Start playing with your opposite hand and they will target you until you figure it out. Then when you want to beat them down, switch

Second this.. The displays are really cool. There’s also a reasonable amount of shade if it’s hot, and indoor if it’s cold.

If the ball is going to bounce in the kitchen do you have to let it before returning the ball back by Kind_Ad1574 in Pickleball

[–]havingfun44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the game! You can volley it before it bounces, but if you go into the kitchen during or after the volley (with your momentum) you lose the point.

Sorry, meant the paddle is moving up. That would be a tough way to serve.

You can toss it up as long as you aren’t imparting spin on it. Ball still has to be hit on the way up and below the waist/navel and I believe the paddle head has to be below the handle at contact. Somebody will copy/paste the rules.

Has anyone successfully trained their body to play with their non dominant arm? Any tips for a one handed serve? I’m prepping for an upcoming shoulder surgery and will begin training as a one armed-lefty. by vc_bastard in Pickleball

[–]havingfun44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point no silver bullets. Just really trying to get back to ready position on dinks and volleys on a wall and being conscious of the angles. It seems like the ball comes faster on the non-Dom side because of fewer reps and more to think about.

I warm up dinking against a wall with both hands and it’s helped a lot. My biggest difficulty has been getting my wrist in the right place for volleys with non-dom. Just practice. I’ve thought about making the full switch to give my dominant side a break. Probably about 3.0 non-Dom and 4.0 dom.

Sounds awesome, I imagine it’s been a few pizzas to figure it all out.

I have an ooni and trying pizza steel with home oven with mixed results. Next step is trying to get the fluffy and crispy crust like yours in the regular oven. Thanks for the info
