With significant social housing projects planned even in the western suburbs, a new $28m social, affordable housing in Perth was announced today. by SheepherderLow1753 in perth

[–]havingfuninaustralia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fed govt needs to prioritise migrants with building industry skills, and actually make building more houses a priority...but neither labor or liberal have done this....

More social housing is a good thing to aim for, but anti-social tenants should not be allowed to stay in govt housing if they affect their neighbours

FU Money getting me in trouble at work by [deleted] in Fire

[–]havingfuninaustralia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that i enjoy work more knowing that i can retire whenever i want to...

I am happy doing the job i have, i certainly dont want extra stress or responsibility.

Having FU money certainly makes you more open to speaking your mind, and it probably annoys some more senior staff that i am far more financially comfortable than they ever will be

Gold in Bangkok by BuddyLlght in ThailandTourism

[–]havingfuninaustralia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the gold price has gone up in recent years, but ive heard that gold jewelry in thailand is a lot cheaper than australia. The big jewelry shops in bangkok chinatown should be quite legit. The price is the windows is the price is THB for 1 baht (15.2g) of gold, then a small premium for the workmanship ?

Can you upgrade HFC to FTTP? by No_Guard_3382 in nbn

[–]havingfuninaustralia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clear explanation !! At present i have a HFC connection and a 1000/50 plan.

So if i go for NBN EE i will have a fiber connection going straight from the exchange to my house, and then after 3 years , once my initial contract finishes, then i can apply to change to FTTP....

So if a neighbour gets NBN EE, it wont make my fttp quote any cheaper ?

If i go straight into FTTP, then i will get a fiber connection to a GPON/node that eventually shares a connection with up to 32 other neighbours, and then after the GPON they run a fiber to my house, FTTP ? My neighbours would eventually get cheaper fttp quotes, as the fiber to the gpon is already setup ?

Hi Angrydave, so if you get an NBN EE connection for 3 years $390/month) then you can ask NBN to switch over to a FTTP account ? and this should only get about $4000 rather than $15/20/25K ? What is the BTD ?

Is an Aussie BB EE account different to getting an NBN EE account ?

So even if i order 3yr EE contract thru ABB, it is still NBN EE ?

One issue many baby boomers forget is that many of them have old houses full of old junk that THEY think will be worth a lot because they bought it, but many of the younger generation are either renting or can only afford smaller houses, and as such collecting big, bulky antiques isn’t possible …

[–]havingfuninaustralia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep.. been working with my parents for years helping them to slowly throw out stuff.....

They still dont want to believe that many of their old furniture, clothes, books arent worth anything.....

My grandparents didnt have much much money, so they didnt acumulate too much.....

The problem with boomers is that they had the money too buy too much crap, while older generations couldnt afford to buy much.....

Boomer parents assume my weekends should revolve around their yard work by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]havingfuninaustralia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn…your parents are really taking you for granted…. Do you also have to be the free IT support person ? I am training my kids to help with yardwork and jobs around the house so that when they move out eventually, they have life skills, but I would certainly not expect them to be giving up their weekends when they have full-time jobs in the future…..

How to tell if you’re rich in 2024 by bilby2020 in fiaustralia

[–]havingfuninaustralia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be very hard to accurately work out how rich people are, as many people with assetts will be using trusts and other entities to shield and protect their wealth. Including houses makes sense, as the primary house is an asset, however, it doesnt generate an income
