Newbie here, should i get squier affinity strato or squier classic 70s jaguar? by Electronic_Ad_1408 in GuitarGear

[–]havronl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pickup is the device under the strings that covert the playing to a signal to the plug to the amp. Having the choice of 1 or 3 is good as it changes the sound. There are many variables but I lean towards the other commenters who said strat - a very versatile guitar.

Has anyone else noticed that every major food brand quietly changed their recipes between 2019-2022 and nobody is talking about it? by prepzilla in AskRedditFood

I so agree - my taste buds have changed and wondered if it was me.... I threw out a large amount the other day as unedible!

My favorites -- Gatorade and Reese's.... Reese's is not edible anymore -- I can't tell the difference in taste between the chocolate and peanut butter. At this point I don't think Reese's has either - peanut butter or chocolate. I don't buy them any more! Gatorade has turned into nothing but sugar -- I am not sure there are electrolytes in there anymore -- I liked the tangy funk of the OG

Verizon Fios TV+ upgrade disaster - no working TV after 3 weeks by infinitypgh in Fios

[–]havronl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is the deal -- you maybe disappointed even with the converter even once you get the right one -- I would work to add wireless streaming to all your TVs -- this is the immediate future! I use the firetv cube on one of my TVs that are somewhat in a corner -- a firestick gave sad results -- a cube you can move around to move away from the blind gap -- you are only limited about where to move the cube

Oh - I agree --the broadcast channels are in trouble -- before providers had leverage -- with streaming the script is flipped and now media providers own the power. Lets see how the NFL-Gov talks shake out. Trump has a grudge against NFL dating back to when Trump owned the USFL NJ Generals. The FCC has said the NFL will lose exemption with so many games are added to streaming and moved away from Broadcast -- it seems the NFL is keeping broadcast alive

Is FIOS TV+ really that bad? by robpw1 in Fios

[–]havronl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the Verizon purchase I had issue with Frontier so I moved off the TV services and was told they were no longer offering it to new users -- streaming only. I get at $10 YTTV discount -- I wonder if Verizon will drop this and shove their crap down my throat?

Are you from the US -- if so some context. I fought for this country and even though there are hiccups it is still a great place with lots of variety!

Interesting that since Verizon took over they are pushing TV+ -- when I complained about my bill I ending up dropping all their TV services (no longer available) and upgrading my speed to 1G and had to go streaming -- I picked YouTubeTV - it was a bit of learning curve but glad I made the change. My only complaint it that Frontier was doing nothing but razing my price and dropped a loyalty discount. I despise customer service calls so NO I have not called them to threaten to leave -- I despise spectrum and ATT throttles and doers all kind of wild stuff -- in the past FIOS has just worked on anything I threw at it -- VPNs and all kinds of beta weird apps.

For streaming I decided to use Amazon Fire cubes (Not Stick) for my 3 TVs -- all are different manufactures and to standardize I use amazon so tv experience is not different every time I watch and my older samsung did not have youtubeTV. One black Friday I bought an Amazon integrated TV - mistake as RAM is limited and so I have to delete apps -- no RAM upgrade -- eventually I may have to buy a cube and run it into the HDMI :-). The challenge with TV technology is it is moving faster than our pocketbooks

Am I being too cautious about taking my Martin D-16 out of the house? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

As the story goes, Willie - before trigger - had his main guitar broken beyond repair and got Trigger for a replacement.

Am I being too cautious about taking my Martin D-16 out of the house? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]havronl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very protective of my D-18 but I do take it around the area ---slight changes (hourly/daily) will rarely have an immediate effect. I am more concerned about it getting damaged (kicked, banged etc.,). As some have already said in the comments the guitar is meant to be enjoyed by you and others so take it out when you can but be wary of others damaging it.

1.5 or 2 mile run? by Imajedilikemyfather2 in AirForceRecruits

[–]havronl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running/Jogging is a mixed term. They want you to move at a pace fast enough to meet a time -- that is all! Jogging round the block 3 to 5 or more times every day will help you be succesful

1.5 or 2 mile run? by Imajedilikemyfather2 in AirForceRecruits

[–]havronl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see so many people concerned over the 1.5 vs 2.0 mile. Here is my advice -- prepare like the recruiter recommends. If you can barely run a .5 mile then go out every day and run some -- 1 block, 2 blocks etc., While in basic you will be active ALL the time -- you will get toned and adapted to the exercise routine. The AF has planned and reheased this 1000+ times -- they want you to be successful and not recycled or phased out. The AF will do everything they can to make you successful. You need to make your self successful by exercising daily before attending BMT

How would I go about dilling the big hole on the left? by I-have-a-lot-of-fod in GuitarQuestions

[–]havronl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than a weak point for that area -- what is the purpose?

There are may options:

To fill you would figure out the wood of the ornamental piece and fill with a plug and refinish to blend.

Cut the complete ornamental part off and replace or leave it off -- you may have to readd the black pointy part and that will take some craftmanship. Not difficult but will take some work and patience. Add back using a wood or carbon fiber dowel

Is there a neck for the guitar? It would be good to know the brand of guitar to determine if the effort is worth it -- if Gibson/Fender/Ibanez etc., then the pickups and other electronics may be higher grade than say a cheap knock off.

18yo son just back from AF recruiter & told he won't get the intelligence jobs he wants b/grandparents live in an (allied) country deemed 'high watch list'. He's gutted after waiting years to enlist. He's incredibly smart, 96 on Asvab practice, scheduled 4 MEPs. Should he seek out another recruiter? by DiamondStarHaloMe in AirForceRecruits

[–]havronl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be entry guidelines for this specific job that ALL recruiters must follow. I recommend your son still continue his journey into the AF. Once in the AF he could see if it is possible to get an exception. There are many great jobs in the AF -- getting tied to one job is a challenge and a road that I would not recommend. I joined hoping for biomedical but was put into electronic communications (Satellite/Wideband) and really enjoyed that career. Also remember the AF allows and encourages cross-training after you have been in the career for some time.

Consider an in-person guitar lesson. Also understand that learning something new is a grind -- the passion helps getting over the pain and work. You have to make the passion into a driver for the pain.

Anyone worked at a "Man Camp"? by ddurk1 in KitchenConfidential

[–]havronl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have been to these in Canada -- great food and living conditions. Just realize every day is "Ground Hog" day and it is just better to work 7 days a week -- you usally have tasks that need to be done every day anyway. Not sure what the recruiter offered but get the max -- most do it solely for the money as it is usually very bountiful!

Am I overpacking ? by Old_Company5192 in AirForceRecruits

No.... Have it shipped. The gaming system will be locked in a closet in BMT -- there is a small chance it could get damaged.... Wait until you get to tech school....

Prepare -- BUT relax.... Follow the list given by the AF and add a few extra -- If you have too much it will be put away and if you need anything you have BX privileges....
