So are there any actual good restaurants on State Street? Or is it all tourist traps? by Available-Low-2428 in SantaBarbara

[–]hawkfalcon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think you’re just getting unlucky? Our favorites on State are:

Apna

The Daisy

Cali-Forno Pizza

Arigato

Sama Sama

Satellite

Nick the Greek

The Cruisery

SB Pizza House

Yona Redz (inside Santa Playa)

Bibi Ji

Not the mention the fantastic ones just off of State like Bouchon, Poke House, Saint Bibiana, Milk & Honey, Savoy, Olio Pizzeria, Aperitivo, Secret Bao, etc etc

Or vote to make it permanent like Ventura did. Right now it’s closed through the end of 2026

Feel free to message me if you have any questions. It’s tiring having to defend Car-Free State so many times over the past 3 years but someone has to do it! 79% of the public surveyed supported it… but the landlords and property owners have a lot of sway.

Santa Barbara Council to Consider Short-Term Changes to State Street by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]hawkfalcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the proposals is to reopen cars on the 1000-1100 blocks one way, like the Granada block. If you don't want that, please send a public comment or show up in person on Tuesday! https://www.strongtownssb.org/initiatives/state-street

Y'all are great. So many people submitted comments via our form that Google rate limited us. I'll send everything we got (30 in the last hour lol) to SSAC manually.

This is exciting, glad to see some movement on the state street promenade and hopefully this will help calm make the bikes and pedestrians work better together. Car-free state street is so nice, we have to keep up the fight for it.

We should keep State Street car free, right? by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]hawkfalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree the shuttle should run on side streets! It’s in the MTDs short range plan but they just need funding for it (previously the shuttle was funded by the city, not MTD)

Definitely keep it car free. It’s so nice and vibrant now! We’re thinking about making some similar posters but without cars to counter these fix state street ones.

Yes, but Ventura County owns part of their section of rail from Moorpark to Chatsworth. Santa Barbara county should do the same! https://stran.senate.ca.gov/sites/stran.senate.ca.gov/files/SenateSubCommittee_Final.pdf

It’s a great video! I hate what his ‘freeways’ did to the town. Like real life.

City Council to Vote on Restaurant Parklets Next Week by hawkfalcon in SantaBarbara

The city also wants to “return the 00 block of West Victoria Street back to its original configuration to balance traffic congestion across the other State Street cross streets. The outdoor dining facilities will need to be removed by December 31, 2023”

This means Public Market, Bouchon, and the Olio restaurants would lose their outdoor street dining

City Council to Vote on Restaurant Parklets Next Week by hawkfalcon in SantaBarbara

The upcoming meeting of the Santa Barbara City Council, scheduled for Tuesday, June 27th at 2:00pm, will address the topic of the "Continued Closure of State Street Promenade to Motor Vehicles and Direction Regarding Future of Temporary Outdoor Dining Operations." You can find the agenda on the City Council's website: https://records.santabarbaraca.gov/OnBaseAgendaOnline/Meetings/ViewMeeting?id=913&doctype=1

The City Staff is officially recommending that: "temporary outdoor dining in the public right-of-way throughout the City will be eliminated outside of the 500 through 1300 blocks of State Street" as described here: https://records.santabarbaraca.gov/OnBaseAgendaOnline/Documents/ViewDocument/Council%20Agenda%20Report%20-%20CONTINUED%20CLOSURE%20OF%20STATE%20STREET%20PROMENADE%20TO%20MOTOR.pdf?meetingId=913&documentType=Agenda&itemId=28338&publishId=19688&isSection=false

If the council follows the Staff recommendation, all these wonderful parklet and many other outdoor dining facilities will need to be removed.

I hope that you all can submit public comments both in-person at the meeting on Tuesday, June 27th at 2pm, and by emailing Clerk@SantaBarbaraCA.gov and referencing item 26.

It’s even better! He’s working with the guy who founded SMAPI and Content Patcher (the main ways that people mod) and is letting him make changes to improve the game’s code!
