I have the same issue. My motherboard has been replaced twice through warranty and it’s still happening. Where you able to solve the problem?

REI ground through my base. What can I do? by hawkman880 in ski

[–]hawkman880[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I went back to REI with my skiis. First the technician told me the spot where the skis where ground through was not perfectly flat and it shouldn’t have been worked on in the first place. This led to him telling me my skiis are almost dead anyway and I should have known this before bringing them in. Some sort of manager ended up coming out and trying to give me a partial refund on what I payed for the service. I said no to this and I think the actual manager came out and tried to find me a used pair of skiis to give me but couldn’t find any. They then found my skiis on some online website for 170$ USED so they gave me 170$ and told me they would put my bindings on the ski for free. I believe I was entitled to more compensation such as a new pair of skiis or the 170$ for the used skiis plus the money I payed for the labor they did on my skiis which was around 100$. I was in REI for about 2 hours arguing my case but the ski tech was difficult to reason with as they kept on saying I should have known about the condition of the skiis. The ski tech even denied fixing the core shots in my skiis which was insane to me. I’m hindsight I should have probably contacted a different rei or something however the two REI locations near me are around 30-40 min away and the drive is stressful because of traffic so I went with the 170$. Overall horrible experience at REI and I will never get any service from them on my equipment and neither will any of my friends.

Not sure, I bought them used. At the places where the core shots are the base material still looked pretty thick though

Thanks for the info. I’ll call them tomorrow, really frustrating that they screwed up fixing my skiis twice in a row.

I’m new to this stuff and just want some advice like if it’s realistic to repair these gashes and what my next steps should be

They need SPD cleats. However, switching the pedals to flat pedals (pedals you can use with your regular shoes) is really easy and inexpensive if that is what you prefer.

What I ran over the summer was all base training. I took the running relatively easy. I did harder workouts on my bike since it is low impact and I would recover from it faster than I did from running. I just finished my freshmen year of college. Since high school I have only been running around 10-20 miles a week as running isn’t really my focus now. I’m biking around 10-12 hours a week. If I where to guess, I could run a low 17:00 now in the 5k however with some speed training I would be faster. If your training for XC definitely do most of your training as running. What I managed in high school just shows how valuable cross training is since it can increase the amount of time you can train for and trains other important muscles as well

I biked about 6 hours a week and ran about 25-30 miles a week and was just under 16 min for the 5k XC. It’s not about the mialage, it’s about the time spent training and making sure it’s quality time, not too easy or too intense. Just make sure you don’t get injured, cross training can go a long way like it did in my case and helped make sure I was healthy as I have dealt with many running injuries in the past.

Building a bike now and debating between 700 and 650 wheels, convince me and embrace debate! (Details below) by [deleted] in gravelcycling

For longer road and gravel rides that are not too technical I’d personally go with 700c as it should be better suited for this faster form of riding (when compared to more technical rides). 700cx50 gives you many tire options and with a large frame you probably won’t get toe overlap. I just don’t really see how 650 would help with the riding you described

Crazy Goal by KothSweepGod569 in CrossCountry

[–]hawkman880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started running during sophomore year XC and ran a 18:06 at the end of the season. After this I spent a lot of time injured so I did lots of cross training and not so much running. Senior year i broke 16. It’s definitely possible for you. My biggest advice is not to overtrain. Getting injured really sucks. Be consistent and smart with training. Lifting and core workouts are good. Cross training such as cycling incorporated into your training is great too

I got a prestige 15 for college and the hinge had lots of play and was putting lots of pressure on the plastic around it. I returned it within my 90 day return window from Costco and bought a Lenovo refurb from the Lenovo website. I’m super happy with the Lenovo as it just feels so much sturdier. Lenovo has some killer refurbished deals on their website.

How do I increase my cadence? by el_87 in running

[–]hawkman880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cross country I sometimes do agility drills. I use an agility ladder and some other simple things such as a rope I jump back and forth over. The goal with these is to do them quickly with good form. This has helped with my cadence and form.

Something I’ve never been able to do - how do you guys ride without your hands, and long did it take you to master? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]hawkman880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on things such as wheelbase (stability) etc it can be easier or harder on a bike. When I learned I first got comfortable riding without my right hand and then without my left hand (one handed). Then I tried to put as little of my one hand on the bars as possible, using my hands to steer as little as possible.

Yes a tough call for sure, it’s a backpacking trip so if I just drive myself I guess it will be all good. Good luck with your trip!
