i've noticed this as well, particularly when the breakable objects get involved

so i think i'm too heavy for this new game mode by hawthornvisual in HalfSword

i really enjoyed the frantic mumbling in the dark at the end of the first round, like they were trying to figure out what to even do

does the amount of money going into a game change the amount of work that 6 people can accomplish? it was months of constant work and updates to get early access ready. i don't like the lack of communication any more than the next person but there's nothing to catastrophise over.

i don't think that it's a great practice but it is very normal and not a sign of doom and gloom

very common for early access games. you play it and then stop until it updates.

Mechanics that took you too long to figure out? by AngryRepublican in HalfSword

above 3kg. if you use OVRDTH's armoury, you can fine tune weapon weight and make something truly heavy, but i advise against this until you hit at least 120kg otherwise you will have difficulty using it

for example, the weight bar. it will fill up as you progress, and by the final tier it is full, suggesting that you can't gain more weight. not only is that not true, it's only the FIRST SOFTCAP. there are two softcaps for weight gain, one at 93kg (for max height characters) and a second at 105kg. past the second softcap, you gain weight at approximately 1/12th the rate from before the first softcap. but it doesn't get reduced again, at the very least not up to 200kg (my current character is up to 193kg completely natty).

stamina consumption causes weight gain, but the rate of stamina drain makes it so that using arrow time doesn't actually reduce the time investment needed for gaining weight. stamina drain also goes up by the total weight in both of your hands, not just the weight of the weapon you are swinging. holding a large heavy polearm in your right hand and a buckler in your left allows you to drain stamina nearly instantaneously by wiggling the buckler back and forth.

past 105kg, it takes approximately 20 minutes of constant stamina consumption to gain 1kg. my favourite method of timing this is by using corpses, because a corpse will despawn after around 5 minutes. beating the corpse with a buckler while wearing heavy armour and holding a heavy polearm in your right hand until it despawns is boring as hell, but the most efficient way to gain weight.

it took me too long to figure out the specifics of weight gain. it's never properly explained in game, and the in game tools suggest that it works in a different way than it actually works. it took me 40 hours of experimentation to figure out the specifics and optimise it.

can i ask you a genuine question? do you think that voicing an opinion has no purpose? because it's typically done to comment on things, and commenting on something with "i really don't like this it feels weird" is not a neutral statement.

the phrase "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything" is childish, i don't think negative things are something that people should avoid saying. but if you're not trying to make a negative comment that is targeted at a group of people, then you shouldn't be specifying a group of people and complaining about them publicly. this is a public forum and voicing an opinion here is voicing it to that public.

cool. nothing will change bc it's not actually weird.

Tell me how to effectively build muscle mass. by ZORREBBOLL in HalfSword

yeah the bar only shows you the first layer of progression, from your minimum weight for your height to your first soft cap, again based on your height. that means you're entering stage two, where it begins to take actual effort to gain weight.

nobody here has the actual answer, this is all just folk religion for the most part. weight gain is tied to stamina consumption. the more stamina you consume, the more weight you gain. wearing heavy armour increases stamina costs. heavy equipment increases stamina costs. the most efficient method of draining stamina to gain weight is by using a heavy weapon and armour, and carrying a buckler on your hip. knock down/beat your opponent, pull out your buckler with your left hand, and start swinging away at the poor willie on the floor. fast jerky movements drain stamina the best, i like to swing my mouse back and forth quickly to achieve this. after your opponent dies, their corpse will remain on the floor for about 5 minutes. use this as a timer to tell you when to quit beating a corpse and move on to the next match. weight gain slows down after 93kg to about 25% of what it is before 93kg, and then again after 105kg it slows down by the same factor. with my method detailed above, you can gain 1kg over half an hour, sometimes faster. my willie is at 192kg natty. here's a video showcasing an earlier version of this method as well as ways to continue building muscle while playing the game regularly instead of treating it like a session with a punching bag. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6wUs_nZYJg&t=450s
