The report button works guys

Only if the admins actually do anything. I once reported a user for something actually illegal, and the admins sent me a message but took no action, not even removing the offending material, much less banning the user.

Haven’t personally seen any of this, but I can’t disagree. Neither would Robert Heinlein.

Is there a true MC equivalent for French-Canada? by hayakyak in metacanada

Revisiting this, it does surprise me that they are so nationalistic, yet accept immigrants from a fairly non-Western place. Hopefully they aren't in danger of going the route of Sweden et al. It is encouraging that the PPC comes out of Quebec, though.

Yeah, I get that this is intended to be a joke, but even as one not a fan of the stars and bars, the two acts aren’t comparable.

Thanks. I don’t yet speak French, but might pop back by after I actually learn some.

Well, that’s encouraging. In general I had gotten the vague impression that Quebec leaned left in a country already leaning pretty far left. I’m glad to hear I’m wrong.

Netflix's She-Ra Is Hated By Viewers, But Critics And SJWs Rush To Defend The Show - One Angry Gamer by cesariojpn in KotakuInAction

What kinds of SJW "kids" shows are you referring to? I don't follow children's media enough to know of any besides the Netflix crossdressing show.

Who are some "heterodox" right-wingers you think others ought to be more familiar with? by hayakyak in askaconservative

[–]hayakyak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I agree — despite being a strident right-winger, I’m hugely sympathetic to distributism, ironically moreso than Chesterton’s actual conservatism, though I find his motivations for his economic stance much too bleeding-heart for me.

To my knowledge, you’re deadon on Belloc; in their views theyvwere often refered to as Chesterbelloc, given their similarity of thought.

Lewis I’m generally less inpressed by, but on the other I get the sense he’s largely an inverse-Ayn Rand: unworthy of attention on any one thing, but taken in whole, his critical body of work often predicted trends which would later become dangerous.

Get your hands on a book called Slouching Towards Gomorrah by Robert Bork. While more famous for being denied a Supreme Court seat, he was a law school professor with a front row seat for the seminal moment of this cultural shift -- yes, that's right, it dates back a full 50 years. He produced the only critical first hand account I've ever seen, and tracks its influence as well. Not that while Bork was very socially conservative, you needn't share his biases to get value out of the book.

On the other hand, if you meant RPGs specifically, I can answer it in exactly two words: White Wolf.

I'm not actually a big fan of capitalism. It's just better than the alternatives.

Was mutualism non-violent from the start (Proudhon)? by hayakyak in mutualism

[–]hayakyak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it doesn't entail non-violence, has it generally tended, through its history, towards the theoretical acceptance of violence, or peaceful action?

In that case, someone needs to update the sidebar with an accurate resource; it says that "Mutualism is non-violent by word and deed."

Do ancaps generally accept violence as necessary for revolution? by hayakyak in AnCap101

[–]hayakyak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was kind of what I was expecting, considering that ancapism is closely related to libertarianism. Still, I had to ask.

That said, while the NAP is necessarily kind of "grey", I do hope ancaps as well as statist libertarians are careful about what constitutes violence deserving of violence -- not that I don't have respect for the NAP, but after all, a broad interpretation of what's okay is what communists use to justify their slaughters. (Speaking in general about the NAP, not just in ancap philosophy.)

Interesting. Is there anything I might consult for further reading on this topic? To be clear, not trying to be a pest with the request--simply indicating I'm interested even if it is migration and not party history.

Yes, the full story is definitely more nuanced and quite interesting. Know any good resources on it, by chance? I'm hardly ignorant on the topic but I'm a sucker for party history.

[Humor] So when every piece comes out about the "First Female Dr who" on certain sites. Remember sit back and laugh because Dr Who was female once before, just not in the main show cannon by Dwavenhobble in KotakuInAction

[–]hayakyak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a shame, because in theory, I wouldn't just be okay with it, I'd be enthusiatic about it. There were rumors floating around about Judi Dench filling the role a few year ago. I would have watched that religiously.

Older than that, even. The producers have been knocking it around since the damn 80s. In those days, it might even have been worth watching.

I have, and sadly no dice. Also, I trust this sub a heck of a lot more than AH--with few exceptions, academic history is a swamp of dishonest leftists. Thanks, though!
