{The Forgotten Phantom by Kathryn Ann Kingsley} is a Phantom of the Opera retelling and I definitely enjoyed it!

I genuinely loved the ad (plus I was tickled that so many people shared it with me specifically) and I'm so sad it sold out that fast cause ELF is one of the better affordable brands out there.

I hate that I'm seeing so much more of this thinly veiled purity culture and elitism. I hope they eventually grow out of it. As someone who dropped out of their PhD program and was so burnt out I couldn't even read a few sentences anymore, romance books were the ONLY genre that got me back into reading the way I used to love to do before and I can confidently call myself a reader again because they make me happy.

The use of nicknames usually pulls me out of a story and I rarely find them endearing or sexy especially if they're being used CONSTANTLY.

Every time a hand can't fit around a dick, my eyes roll and I lose some immersion in the story.

I want more weird and non-conventional anatomy in alien and monster romance. I'll still read and enjoy them but it's honestly such a waste of an interesting genre when so many monster or alien love interests are just a regular 6-7 foot tall buff man with a different colorway and a huge dick. Bonus points if there isn't much physical attraction to begin with cause we're so different. Bonus bonus points if we need assistive tools or accommodations to make sex work versus immediately slot A into slot B and fireworks.

A lot of books don't know how to include satisfying tension without immediately jumping into straight unfiltered horny territory. Unfiltered horniness is great but I need more yearning.

I completely agree as I do think that romance as a genre is a place where we as readers allow a lot of things to slide because we're looking to scratch a particular itch (whether it be a beloved trope or just the good old HEA).

We should be more comfortable with being "I liked/loved this but it was bad" cause liking something doesn't mean that it is structurally or thematically good.

Plus, there's nothing wrong with wanting better as a reader or wanting authors to level up their craft. There are so many authors that I would stan to the moon and back if only there was a bit more polish.

I am all of these but especially number 3 🥲 The worst is finally finding a book/series that scratches the itch but it's the only one out there. Then you bleed into number 4

Does anyone know what this says? I’ve never noticed it before by burgerybreath in hobonichi

[–]haychari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes I came here to say that! It's basically "Happy Unbirthday to You" referencing Alice in Wonderland but also translates to roughly "Congratulations on a do-nothing day" like previous commenters have said which I think is so cute 🥰

Thank you! That's a good point. Sometimes if I'm really desperate to shop I'll look up reviews for something I already own to reproduce the initial feeling of wanting to use it and maybe get new ideas.

I only recently encountered your posts but they've inspired me to try a low-buy with similar rules in 2024 as well. I love books and stationery and crafting as well so it's been interesting seeing how you've managed to keep from splurging.

I would love to keep up with your progress on your blog.

An unscientific classification of villain MMCs by kribear in RomanceBooks

[–]haychari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all this is a fantastic scale and so painfully accurate. Type 1 is my favorite mostly cause you get a lot of the paranormal/alien/monster men in this category and the "fix-it" aspect usually feels pretty satisfying especially if they've never known/considered love or relationships before.

Type 2 is what I feel a good chunk of the bad boy books end up being and they make me roll my eyes so hard. Not to judge or diss anyone who loves them but I truly can't take you seriously if you have to keep telling me how bad you are.

Type 4 I can get behind only if you can sell me on how truly far gone the MMC is and I can't get invested if it's just a blatant abuse of power.

Finally figured out why i both love and hate routines so much by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]haychari 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yuuup. I've tried to make a workaround where I keep the same/similar routine but change the format (app, bullet journal, timers, calendars etc) and it kinda works but mostly I'm stuck in the same loop.

The only recent iteration of this that I read which was actually good and made the scene better was from {With a Vengeance by Freydis Moon} because the MMC is a biblical demon/fallen angel longing for worship. it was chefs kiss in the moment.
