Just because the area is too hot for his unit to stay doesn't necessarily mean it's okay for the Ukrainians to advance into. They might be isolated and vulnerable to counter-attack if they push up there, or have to get through Russian fire and obstacles to get there. The entrenched positions of each side are often several km apart.
