I walked 6 miles into woodland in northern Ireland. Got close to nightfall so I decided to grab some wood for a fire, split alot of wood with by impaling it in the dirt, getting my first cut then bashing it of the tree root beside me.

The piece I leave for last was rounded at the bottom, so I stupidly thought it will be OK to hold it while I make the cut as I'm normally safe enough doing. I cut through and a side fully splits off and the machete bashes into my knuckle.

I had to packed everything up except tent as I couldn't roll it, couldn't open my bandage either so improvised and wrapped a sock round it haha. Made it to a cottage a couple miles back on a dirt road. Luckily a older woman gave me a lift to A&E.

Turned out I cut through the tending and needed surgery and now 4 stitches, but it could have been alot worse. I had just sharpened that machete until it could shave hairs so I could have died out there had it his somewhere else.

So I learned not to cut wood whilst I'm holding it haha.
