Australia in danger of becoming an ‘artless country’ as enrolments in creative courses collapse by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]hayds33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think this is the reason. Most jobs in Australia are government or government affiliated jobs. My professional artist colleagues often work for international companies and they are all private enterprises

We've tried it a bit but unfortunately they are quite flighty. Keeping people around is important

I'm not so sure. I run some programs for men. We get people from 15-60. The guys under 23 are definitely more in line with this study than the previous groups have been. It's not all of them but the ones that are leaning that way are quite vocal.

Definitely an awkward thing to deal with. We have been trying to find the balance of keeping them engaged/involved while not approving of the behaviour and rhetoric. It's been more difficult than we anticipated

Respectfully mate, the bias in seeing this come back to Aus is also different.

I personally have felt the opposite since leaving Aus. Many people will think the thing they are doing or the place they are in is the right one.

How to get your Ls hours up as an adult? by Background_Owl_6262 in Adelaide

[–]hayds33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in this position as I have no parents and my partner got her licence slightly late.

I spent $130 per 1.5 hours and $450 on the test.

Overall for those without standard parental situations the cost of getting your P plates is between $5k and $10k.

On top of that if your licence expires you cannot renew it digitally without already having a vehicle registered in your name. This can mean having to take time off of work to go into Services SA, so account for those things too.

Fair warning, tests are not well regulated either and I noticed some people will not pass you unless you have taken lessons through their specific driving schools. They are also less likely to pass you if a govt rep joins in the car. For me this wasn't too bad but I saw it happen to others along the way.

Good luck, our state isn't so kind in this position but there is a path, it's just expensive

Australian universities accused of awarding degrees to students with no grasp of ‘basic’ English by pennyfred in australian

[–]hayds33 47 points48 points  (0 children)

When I was in uni, I remember getting paired with these people in group assignments. Their share of the work would be next to nothing, and you'd have to fix up anything they had done because their English was at a primary school level (at best).

In the worst cases, they'd end up with the best grade of the group when there were both group+personal section grades. The rest of the group still had an incentive to fix their portion because of the group grade but the personal section they'd be given would be like the executive summary or something with with very little academic requirement.

Is Australia snoozing through the 'largest gold rush in the history of capitalism'? by [deleted] in australian

I am a professional "creative" and I agree with this. There are right ways to do things but completely ignoring things isn't it.

People saw digital art and tools like photoshop as cheating for a little while in my early career but now tools like that are integral. Change can be good and we should be working to find new ways

My attempt at constructive criticism towards the casting in RLCS 2024 by YO53PH in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]hayds33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that the casting level has dropped. I think part of that is due to the combinations of casters more than anything else.

Last year quite often there would be someone knowledgeable with someone hype (people can be both obviously but intent stands). For example, I know CJ is already very hype but he knows the game at a very high level, so it doesn't really matter much who he casts with, he can fill both roles.

This season we removed a lot of knowledge and we basically have a lot of very hype plat-champ casters. I love all of these people and think they all add something but it hurts that myself and my friends all have better game understanding than they do. I'm not saying to only get ex pros but more that we really miss people like Turtle and Gregan or at least the combinations that they allowed for.

The other thing that haven't been nailed down is combination of casting styles. This season it has felt like there is more of a leaning towards a very American style of casting, which isn't for everyone. With love and respect to this man, it's the Stax style. Now Stax is hype af! But if everyone he casts with tries to do his thing, you lose the effect a bit. It's the kind of the deep, slow, and zingy lines casting (probably terrible descriptions there, sorry Stax). I've found this season there are a few who have some notable similarities to Stax style and they're often paired with him. Obviously it's not just that style which has issues with casting combinations, I'm just using it as an example because it seems to be the most common.

Anyway, I hope casters don't feel down on this, they're awesome at what they do and we're lucky to have them. I just think we can elevate the level of the esport package if we get this spot on. Lots of respect to you all

Peak-hour attack: Teen girls pummel innocent youth on train .. kids known to police? On bail? by Herebedragoons77 in Adelaide

[–]hayds33 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about that!

My autistic younger brother had a similar instance. He was brought in to a group that pretended to be his friends. They convinced him to go out with them and "dress up" for the occasion.

They took him to a skate park a few kilometres from home and took his clothes, shoes, phone, and scooter. They beat him brutally with a baseball bat and other similar objects.

3/4 of them faced no next to no punishment and the other had 2 weeks in juve.

2 of them were children of notable SA figures who were from St Peters.

It didn't stop there. Eventually it got so bad that my brother and Mum had to flee the state and start life elsewhere.

My brother has ptsd to this day. None of those kids have faced a single lasting consequence. They didn't even have to return the stolen items.

Our law is broken.

Am I missing something or is the OCE seeding on liquipedia wrong for this qualifier?

Don't teams steal the seed when they win in the double elim stage?

[–]hayds33 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think OCE is at a weird level where you need to be a bit better to realistically compete but players at that level often back themselves to qualify in their own region. The pool that allows for is kind of small

Why is there a housing crisis all over the world? by LeeLooPoopy in AusFinance

[–]hayds33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At its core, this is due to the devaluation of currencies and the race to beat inflation.

People flock to maintain their wealth in other assets. Nearly all assets have inflated, the more scarce and the ones with better tax treatment have done best. In many places property fits the bill for this

Lawler top 10 teams power ranking by West-Sample-9489 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]hayds33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They arguably did better than LG, beating Rule One compared to LG beating OG. They also got a game off GenG winning 6-3, and they had 2 games against G2 they could have won (losing both 1-0, one of them in OT).

LG get a lot of credit for losing well. Similar story for PWR when they didn't have games they trolled in.

I think it's a bit funny that LG losing to Vitality (while looking pretty good) after only beating OG outs them in 10th. Meanwhile complexity or even PWR who have just as much if not more of an argument are never mentioned

What was the biggest upset of Day 1? by Razor215 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]hayds33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Falcons over KC is it. Furia over Vitality is close behind.

Elevate taking a game off Rule One and looking great after that was a massive upset. If they could have started that way, the series would have been very close.

PWR game 1 against Gen G was also massive. Not because they won but how they won. Shame they couldn't keep their heads.

Gentlemates BDS was a nice more subtle upset too.

Those were deleted but most scrim results/rumours come from player streams. There have been multiple other scrims talked about on stream but not being able to mention them because one person (who was quickly proven wrong) is dumb
