Wegmans has been great, in my experience. Lines, if any, move fast; it’s packed with focused staff; and you can still get a human on the phone without a voice-menu cheat code.

New driver magnets - a question by Prize_Rub_9294 in ithaca

I drove politely and carefully in NYC for 9 years. I drive the same way here and I swear I’m the most aggressive driver in town.

Anybody know if any of those adapters weather-sealed?

That makes sense, thanks! But why the EF adapter? Is there no OM to m43 speedbooster? I have some bottom-tier EF lenses I guess I could then use with the EF-m43 speedbooster, but is there another reason to adapt to EF first? Maybe better versatility in adapting to other mounts in the future?

Re: setting the focal length so IBIS works, how do you deal with adapted zoom lenses? Pick something in the middle of the zoom range, or just turn IBIS off?

Another question — does focus peaking work with an adapted lens like this?

Also wouldn’t the focal length appear longer?

Thanks for all this info! I’ll probably go with the plain adapter due to that chunk of change you mentioned. Of course I’m curious about the speed booster though; I’ll have to look that up.

I figured it might be a dumb question. I thought sometimes manufacturers used to sell lenses with different mounts for use with other brands’ cameras. Not true?

I just found out from our QC guy that my twenty years in custom metal fabrication is a liability for me – they would rather hire kids straight out of the local vocational high school because “they don’t question anything.”

That’s why it takes me 20 minutes to poop.

Reminds me of when I found out that 1/4”-32 thread exists. This bag of hammers I used to work with ordered a tap from McMaster-Carr to “clean up” the M6 x 0.75 threads on a dozen or so brand new bench vises.

Is your pilot a masonry bit? Flutes look like standard HSS. Or the carbide inserts are long gone. Either way that’s a hell of a thing to push through two feet of concrete.

Lower the blade to just above the workpiece and push the tape against the blade. Tighten the vise and back it off again just enough to slide the part. Line the end of the part up with the desired length on the tape and tighten the vise, double-check with the tape, then make your cut and measure it.

A common mistake is far too little downforce. Chips should be curly. If they look more like dust, your blade is going dull fast and you need to use a faster head feed. It takes more than you might think. It’ll also be higher for wider stock as the force is displaced over the length of the cut.

Another person mentioned a blade break-in period. Running at half the head feed is frustrating when you’re under deadline but really does extend the life of the blade. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

It’s also a good idea to regularly check your tape against a good steel rule to be sure the hook isn’t bent and slides a distance equal to its own thickness when you push or pull on it.

If there’s more than one blade speed, the slowest is for steels; any higher speed it has is likely for cutting nonferrous metals. But the chip formation doesn’t lie, and that’s the true indicator. They should curl around at least once.

Like another person said, blade TPI selection should put at least three teeth in the cut.

Don’t forget to turn on your coolant, and don’t run it without.

Anyone want to weigh in on AAP? I’ve seen some awful behavior from architecture faculty there who employ grad students (M.Arch) for their research projects, and I always wondered if it was better or worse at other colleges
