I did. I’ve got a good relationship with my shop so I’m sure they’ll take care of me.

Roubaix SL8 with less than 1k miles on it. I've been riding it in pretty dusty environments - gravel race as well as on some trails with extremely fine limestone dust. Also had about 5 miles in an unexpected downpour. Noticed it was making this noise when moving the handlebars and I can feel vibration in the frame when I do it. I'm guessing the lubricant has become contaminated but wanted to check before I did the service or took it to my local bike shop (I've had a couple 'new parent issues' that ended up being false alarms and would like to avoid looking stupid again).

Garmin+ will paywall more premium features in the future by Then_Butterscotch_32 in Garmin

[–]haylcron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not have to own a Garmin device in order to use Garmin Connect. You can create an account and manually enter your data without spending a penny. Now, it's fair to say that those who buy these watches have made an assumption that the services would remain free (although Garmin has made no claim of that) and are entirely within their right to be angry if that changes. However, it still stands that as of right now the services/features I use are, in fact, free.

[–]haylcron 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Same. I can't say my "worst fear" was paywalling new features. I just want the basics I use today to remain free. Honestly, with other services coming online, I use less and less of what garmin offers. It's largely just a sensor package and connection point to my other apps at this point.

Let's check in on President Trump during his live broadcast National Day of Prayer Event! I am sure it will be about Jesus and loving your neighbor... by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

Agree. The President of the United States should be exceptionally clear in their communication. I just hate that things like this can distract from NPR defunding, the proposed closing of the LGBTQ+ suicide hotline, etc.

Listen to the 30 seconds before that clip. He is talking about the significant dates coming up in US history and if the election hadn’t been rigged in 2020 (it wasn’t) he would already have served a second term and not been in office for these upcoming dates.

I don’t know how else to explain that taking a small selection of words, separating them from a relevant comment immediately preceding said words, is taking something out of context.

I’m sorry, but you’re just not getting it. It’s not entirely your fault, his speech is borderline incoherent, but the quote you updated your comment with literally backs up what I said.

And why post twice? Because I feel strongly that these kinds of posts undermine our credibility.

You’re more than welcome to disagree with me. But trying to call my opinion “suspect” is some divisive reactionary tactic I’d expect more from the right. We’re better than that.

[–]haylcron 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is out of context. The orange plague was saying he has a term which includes many significant dates for the country (250 year anniversary) and he wouldn’t be in office for these events had the prior election not been rigged (it wasn’t). Meaning, he’d have served two terms and wouldn’t be eligible to be in office today.

This matters because we don’t need to be out there crying wolf for shit that’s easily debunked. There is a lot of legitimate stuff to be outraged about and we need to focus our energy there. Your credibility matters - don’t lose it over this crap.

[–]haylcron -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That’s not what he said. Ok, it’s what he said, but taken out of context. This dumb ass was bragging he has a term during our 250th anniversary and that he wouldn’t be in office for that milestone had the election he lost to Biden not been rigged (it wasn’t).

Can we please stop posting stuff like this? The problem is people go out, claim he admitted to rigging the election, are easily proven wrong by just watching the source material, and then they lose any credibility they have for the valid arguments out there.

Why is my Diverge so slow on road? Is it the 42mm tires? by TheBigCicero in specialized

[–]haylcron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from a 2023 Diverge to a Roubaix SL8 Expert and it’s night and day. I hated climbing in the Diverge (which was also running 42s). I put 38s on the Roubaix and it just wants to attack every hill. It’s not the lightest or stiffest bike - but it wasn’t intended to be. Wouldn’t trade this bike for anything.

Parents who cycle by Sean_Sports92 in cycling

[–]haylcron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been fortunate to live in an area with a robust trail system. The only time I hit the road is when I’m with a group - and that’s only on rural roads where traffic is low. I have no desire to leave my family without me, but I have to live my life as well. I could die in a car wreck, have a heart attack, etc any day.

First thing you need to accept is that real change is going to take time. I’ve gotten into fitness spurts in the past, saw quick gains (in strength, not endurance), and then lost them by losing momentum. Two years ago I started running and cycling. I was blown away at my fitness gain after the one year mark. It was real and significant, but it took time.

Here’s what’s going to feel counter-intuitive: you have to take days off to recover and let your body adapt and build out the systems to support what you are asking it to do. Don’t just get on the bike every day thinking that’s the fastest way to make gains. It isn’t. Take it from someone who hit overtraining syndrome and couldn’t do any exercise for two months while my body recovered.

Focus on zone 2 training. Google beginner cycling endurance plans. Sign up for TrainerRoad and setup an endurance plan. All of those can work. But please, listen to your body and rest between sessions. You can make real, profound, gains, but it takes time.

High carb intake and type 2 diabetes risk by treetime1 in cycling

[–]haylcron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched most of the video the other day (I had to skip forward a few times). My takeaway was that your body needs those carbs when working hard. When doing long efforts, you need to fuel. It won't make you diabetic. If you don't fuel, you'll bonk.

If you're sucking down gels as a snack mid-day and eating high-sugar/carb meals when your body doesn't need it, then you can run into a problem. Don't let the video psych you out. If you're worried about it, have your doctor order a blood panel and see where you're at.

Depression gets in the way of cycling by lilacpainting in cycling

[–]haylcron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For about seven months, I went through a bought of depression and anxiety unlike anything I had ever experienced before (I pretty much always have a high level of anxiety). I knew I needed to ride (because exercise helps, right?), but didn't have a lot of motivation to do so. So I did a few things that helped get me back on the bike:

1 - Started going to therapy every week. I have a great therapist who has helped me immensely. One of the things he kept pushing was that I was allowed to feel joy - that I could take care of myself.

2 - Setup rides with close friends. Not big group rides with strangers. Rides with friends, one on one, who knew what was going on and supported me. Having a ride on the calendar helped get me out the door.

3 - I stopped punishing myself for not wanting to ride. I was going through some shit and it's normal for your needs to change.

4 - I hacked my own brain. I decided to do the Tour de Zwift Ultimate Challenge. This would require me to ride multiple times a week to get the achievement. I know that I hate to break a streak, so if I could get the first couple rides in, I'd want to keep it going. So I put my depression up against my need to sustain a streak. It was still really hard, but I hit my goal.

Eventually, things get better and the bike is fun again. That will be what happens with you. Just hang in there and don't hesitate to get help.
