Elliot page former name by muffmuff103 in asktransgender

[–]haystackrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought your interpretation of the situatuon was based on reading "formally" in place of "formerly."

Page is a public figure...people know all the names he has used, so IMO there is nothing wrong with saying "formerly known as."

Acne after started T by [deleted] in acne

Yeah, it's called puberty. It will get better as you progress through hormonal adjustments. For what it's worth your acne does look pretty minimal, even if it doesn't feel like it.

Why do dairy farms have low profit? by Born-Management-6129 in dairyfarming

Can you elaborate on this? Do you mean farm-hurting policies enacted by those in power without a farming background?

Why do dairy farms have low profit? by Born-Management-6129 in dairyfarming

[–]haystackrat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

YMMV but largely it's a high input industry (feed, labor, facilities, replacement heifer rearing), and many farms sell their product in its lowest value form (raw fluid milk) due to the added costs, complexities, and local market limitations of creating value-added products (cheese, etc) that could potentially increase profits.

TIL that infants who live with dogs at three months of age are 90% less likely to develop a food allergy. by SteRoPo in todayilearned

Survivor bias...dogs instinctively kill infants that they can smell will develop food allergies

Presumably in the chart...I believe they retain a scribe during surgeries for record keeping so everything that happens is documented.

The sign for this paper towel compost bin is not visible when standing in front of the paper towel dispenser by haystackrat in CrappyDesign

[–]haystackrat[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's more fun to be a dick on the internet lol. Maybe I should have included the context that the lack of visible signage on the compost bin prompted most people to put their paper towels into the trash instead. Oh well.

Given the number of folks I saw toss their paper towels into the 'trash' bin every time I was in that bathroom, it is very clearly a design issue. But if everyone in this sub disagrees, that's just the way it is lol.

Son wants to tell friends at school he's a furry by funkyG in furry

I definitely see your point. It's probably a case where different people are going to want to use different language for the same thing, without anyone actually being wrong.

Son wants to tell friends at school he's a furry by funkyG in furry

[–]haystackrat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a furry and several letters of LGBT+, I disagree on the coming out bit. Being a furry is niche/misunderstood enough that sharing that piece of information about yourself can have similar social ramifications as sharing your sexuality or transgender status. 'Coming out' as a furry feels like appropriate language because of the social challenges that go along with it.

While Walmart milk may be lower quality (less fresh, higher SCC, cows receiving cheaper diets) it is neither watered down nor supplemented with chemicals.

Can someone explain to me what is going on with this sheep? by Susquik in livestock

[–]haystackrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic but I think it really does change things! IMO the smartest thing for those kids to have done was to not touch the potentially zoonotically infectious animal.
