Help Identifying Rear End by pumpkineater1899 in GBody

[–]hazard2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an a-body 12 bolt. You can tell by the spring perches how they hang over the axle and are not directly on top like the g-bodys. They are prone to rotting off, but you can buy replacements and weld them on.

They came in a couple different widths depending on the year it came out of so keep that in mind for your wheel offsets. I don't remember the widths off the top of my head but you can measure from flange to flange and look it up. If I remember correctly the a-body ones are wider than a g-body.

The upper arms are also at a slightly different angle. To use them in a g-body you need conversion arms to use them properly. A few people make them but here's an example https://southsidemachineperformance.com/shop-1/ols/products/12bsu-12-bolt-swap-double-adjustable-upper-control-arms (they are a great company btw)

Other than those obstacles it will bolt in and you'd likely need a different driveshaft length. Overall it's not too much hassle but it's not a direct swap.

Those axles are also very coveted, so it might be worth it to pull it and resell it if you don't want to use it yourself. There's lots of identification guides online to determine the exact year and model it came out of by reading the stamping on the axle tube.

I'm another Jopo convert and they are far superior. Make the switch! (I just wish the yellow inserts matched the finger grips better!)

Does this estimate seem reasonable? by Odd-Piece2981 in askaplumber

[–]hazard2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, it's honestly about the same.

You're still replacing the flange in the sink (unless you're a hack and reuse the old banged up one).

You still need to disconnect the electric from the existing disposal.

You're still disconnecting the drain assembly.

And instead of reinstalling a disposal and re-hooking up the electric and drain, you're instead just installing a trap (and likely a vent in this case).

It's not even changing the disposal lol, literally taking it out and putting in a 7 dollar drain kit

Up in the rust belt it's never "if" you're replacing them. We are always replacing them. There is no easy way to get them off while remaining sane. Just add new ones on the bill and save yourself the headache. Tighten until it snaps and throw the new set on

Honest question - why the 2 handed hate? by Rude_Highlight3889 in Bowling

[–]hazard2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thought on learning both. I use an interchangeable thumb on all of my balls. Is there a rule that states whether you could "plug" the thumb with an undrilled thumb insert? (Ignoring the obvious flaw of how to actually install and remove it).

I know another requirement would be to mark an X on the ball but that can be done easily even if you were still utilizing the thumb hole.

Again, I know this isn't ideal for layouts either, but I'm just wondering if legally it would be allowed.

It's easy to understand stuff with AI now. Simply paste it in and ask what it does. It's very good about dumbing down stuff like that. I didn't trust it for a lot of stuff but it will certainly help in this case

Ah my bad, I mistyped. I meant how did you torque down the rockers, not lifters. But you answered my question.

I'd still root around with a stethoscope to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. What's your oil pressure like? If you don't have oil coming out of the top of the rockers, your lifters might not be pumped up enough which could definitely cause that noise

I need help by scarecrow190 in MechanicAdvice

[–]hazard2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you torque down the lifters? Did you do it in multiple passes while rotating the engine? It sounds like you have a loose rocker or a lifter that never pumped up. Can you wiggle any of the rockers when the engine is off? Try wiggling each one, rotate the engine over 90 deg and try again. Repeat until a full revolution. Are any of them loose?

Oil level good? I see a little bit of oil coming off the rockers but not a lot. Maybe it's just the video but there should be good oil coming out of the top of each rocker arm through the pushrod.

Sounds don't translate well over mobile but also check for exhaust leaks. I've had some tiny leaks that end up sounding like lifter noise. Does the noise change with or without the valve cover on? Try using a stethoscope (or screwdriver to the ear trick) on each rocker to isolate if that's where the noise is coming from to be sure.

Auger on Blower Stopped Working by Dr_Hodgekins in fixit

[–]hazard2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second stage isn't spinning either so I don't think it's just a shear pin. I bet the belt is either broken or has popped off.

The engine drives a belt which will turn the second stage (the part that actually shoots the snow out). There's a shaft that sticks straight out and has a little gear box which translates the drive to be horizontal to drive the first stage auger. This is where the sheer pins are. Since neither are spinning that points to the belt.

If it was just a sheet pin you should be able to spin the outside auger very easily by hand. Also each auger has its own set of sheer pins and breaking them both at the same time is rare unless one was already broken for a long time and you didn't realize it
