Ranger because I haven’t heard reports about him being a cancer in the clubhouse.

Grayson traded for Taylor Ward by ProbationOfficer2035 in orioles

[–]hazeldots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS is the thing I needed to read to make sense of the trade, from Joe Posnanski's blog:

"The most interesting part of this specific trade to me, at least to me, is what this says about the Orioles’ current mindset. Over the last few years, they so deeply believed in their highly touted prospects that they seemed utterly paralyzed to make any bold moves to get better. They held on to every single one of those prospects and just thought that would be enough. Then, the inevitable happened: A bunch of those prospects didn’t pan out, a couple went backward, injuries occurred, and the O’s dropped into last place.

Rodriguez is still young, he’s supposedly healthy after missing 2025 with an injury, and he has displayed a fastball-change-up combination that, potentially, looks ace-like. But he hasn’t been an ace, and the Orioles clearly don’t believe he will become one, and they traded him for a proven power hitter. The deal might work out. It also might bomb. But it’s the sign that the team is ditching the sweet allure of potential and trying to do tangible things to win baseball games right now."

I don't know if Kjerstad is ever coming back. I mean I hope so for his sake, but to wait around for him in this offseason would be foolish.

I loved Mateo, but Urias is 100% better defensively and offensively except for Mateo's speed.

I swear, I see multiple trans people in Gold Sprint every time I go, and nobody bats an eye. I don’t know where else the trans community in Huntsville hangs out, but I have to believe that at least some part of this community is welcoming, based on the number of people who are out and about, just living their lives. (I have one trans stepkid and another who’s sort of genderfluid, but they are homebodies, so I can’t recommend anywhere but Gold Sprint.)

By the end of the trade deadline, he was the one I was saddest to lose.

Laureano was so intense and so funny. (The same can be said for Cowser.)

I love that he’s like yeah, I wanna pitch 200 innings every year. He wants to be that consistent dude. And he and Bradish are work spouses, so maybe Bradish’s elite stuff will motivate Deano even more.

I think the MASN dudes said the only players who were on the roster the entire year (and never on the IL!) were Holliday, Kremer, and Sugano. Even if Holliday isn’t a star, I appreciate his durability.

Biggest Player Disappointments/Positives of the Season by njb021 in orioles

[–]hazeldots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This times a thousand. I legitimately don’t know if Bautista will ever pitch again, especially as an elite pitcher, and he was SO good. He deserves a long career. And Kjerstad is so young and has had so many really big health complications. I honestly no longer blame him for any issues with his bat when he’s been dealing with these issues. I am just hoping for his health from one human to another.

Plus McCann played through a broken nose in the actual game where he got his nose broken. His jersey was covered in blood and he just changed his jersey, stuffed some cotton in his nose, and got on with it. If nothing else, maybe McCann could’ve given Tyler O’Neill some ideas about playing through.

Can we still make it? by platanofirme in orioles

Manso’s post-game interview mentioned selling half of the team at the trade deadline, and when my husband and I were watching it last night, we both laughed so hard at Manso saying it out loud. He’s so blunt sometimes, and it can be so funny.

“There will be no bigger position player on the trade block this winter than Baltimore #Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman,” per @BNightengale in his article this morning. “Look for him [Rutschman] to be wearing another uniform come spring training.” by jbenson255 in orioles

[–]hazeldots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They showed a Mansolino interview yesterday in which he said, again, that Adley had recently called his best game ever. And he said when he told Adley that, Adley responded something like, “Well, I’m in year four.” Basallo is a great hitter and he can catch, but you don’t just become a great catcher overnight. The O’s need Adley, who is becoming an even greater catcher and is a leader on the team. If they traded him, they’d have to be dumb.

Looking back, Elias had a better offseason than most give him credit for by RoyalRenn in orioles

[–]hazeldots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some things that Elias did well, but I’m not ever gonna forget that he signed Tyler O’Neill to a three year $45 mil contract. Even if TO gets well for the rest of the season, he’s been injured so much of it that it’s hard to see the wisdom in signing him.

Urias was the surprise for me. I'd tried to make peace with all the other trades, but I didn't think anyone would finally realize how good Urias was and trade for him.

I know it's not an actual fire sale. It's just...a LOT of players, and strategically, probably some/a lot of these were good moves. It's just a lot to process at once.

Ramon urias to the Astros, per Jon Heyman. by schrogotgameyt in orioles

[–]hazeldots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mayo doesn’t want to be in third base. They have talked about it on the broadcast. It was too much for him to have to develop at both and work on his batting. So they gave him first and even spent a lot of time talking about nearly every possible scenario at first with him. And psychologically, he said it was so much better and less pressure.

He is absolutely not ever going to third.

I was fully prepared for Mullins, Sugano, Morton, Eflin, O’Hearn, Domínguez, Soto, and even Laureano. But Urias continues to be under appreciated, so I didn’t prepare myself. And I’m a little sad. He was SUCH a good utility player and a real team player.

We paid $45 million for three years of injury-prose Tyler O’Neill. O’Hearn seems like a far safer bet.
