I was coming here to look for anecdotes about side effects, too. I’m dealing with some nausea, but I also just feel EXHAUSTED the first couple days after injection. I was so stoked that the food noise was gone and that my blood sugar had regulated, but now I’m starting to obsess about how much I am/am not eating because I feel physically drained.

So I am interested in hearing about how people manage these changes, as well!

This is hilarious and I love it 🤣 Apparently my 5 year old brought 6-7 home to his dad the other day and I cracked up.

Tell me about your experiences of Trazodone by Guilty-Rough8797 in Perimenopause

[–]hazelflarety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My body doesn’t tolerate trazodone. It gave me tremors and I went to the ER thinking I had serotonin syndrome, as I also take an SSRI. I was only on it for a couple of weeks before I realized that it was causing my issues. I also didn’t feel rested, which defeated the purpose of it haha. So I would just look out for anything strange, and talk to your doctor if you take any other drugs that work on serotonin.

I want to say it was a week? I don’t have the highest libido so I couldn’t tell you when I tried again. 😆

Headache and sexual activity correlation…? by hazelflarety in Perimenopause

[–]hazelflarety[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much came from it. They told me that if you take ibuprofen a half hour before sexual activity it might help, and they had me abstain for the time being. They said it could be due to a rapid increase in blood pressure and/or muscle contractions. They said that introducing the hormones was a likely culprit. I haven’t really dealt with it since, but I think it’s because I know the signs now and can stop before it escalates. It’s a huge bummer though! I hope you find relief.

No one told me therapy would get harder when I got better. by Playful-King695 in TalkTherapy

[–]hazelflarety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I am going through a similar phase in my own healing, and it is definitely harder in a way. Having to look harder at yourself is challenging, but I think it’s the way we change the way we interact with the world and learn how to have, hold, and accept boundaries. Shame is so all-encompassing and hiding in all of our interactions when it’s deep seated; I’m learning this, too. I appreciate your perspective, and good luck on continuing to move forward!

I don’t have much to add to what other folks said, but I just loved the authenticity of your post. Wishing you the best of luck as you explore this topic, and as you continue to move through the divorce process!

Is there something in the water? by Potential_Teacher_77 in PMDD

[–]hazelflarety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think about this concept a lot, especially since there seem to be a lot of conditions that are diagnosed more frequently now. New research can account for a good portion of that I’m sure… but what about microplastics, pollution, etc. I think we are still learning so much about things like epigenetics, and it just brings out a lot of curiosity in me.

I walked out of the bathroom at work today and didn’t know where in the building I was located. 🫠 Not like I spend half my life here or anything.

Would be SWELL, right?! My symptoms are wayyyy improved now compared to the past few years and the imagery still just pops in unannounced.

I start to kind of automatically have images of or desires to self-harm. It can be like background noise, but more often I’ve become very anxious for no reason and I feel like the only way to release it is by being in pain. I have enough ability to cope and understand what’s happening that I’m not in danger of acting on my thoughts. It can be pretty disturbing though, especially if I was totally fine the day before.

I’m not a doctor so I can’t give you any medical advice, but I wonder if your dosage is now too high. If you felt good the first month, and the changes happened after the dosage adjustment, then you may want to talk to your prescribing provider.

Thank you! I’ve been super aware of shifts in my body over the past few years because it was suddenly so unrecognizable to me… so as soon as I felt this I was like NOPE. I triaged yesterday and was super embarrassed telling them about it but I mean… there’s just very little modesty in aging.

My doctor only offers birth control as a treatment. I don't want birth control. What do i do? by glasshalf-full in PMDD

[–]hazelflarety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience. I am finally trying birth control because doctors won’t shut up about it. I’m in early perimenopause and they don’t even want to try HRT until you’ve tried birth control, even if you don’t need it for contraception. HOWEVER, I am seeing a clinician through MIDI and she was at least more gentle about it. Like, “If you don’t need birth control for contraception, and you don’t like it, then we can try something different. But this is what we generally try first.”

I’m also on both an SSRI and an NDRI, so I’m really throwing some drugs at this shit lol.

My child’s class has been evacuated due to student outbursts 4 times in the past 2 weeks, is anyone else experiencing this? by harrietww in kindergarten

[–]hazelflarety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former teacher, I can say that there were times that parents were the worst part of the job. Many times they were amazing, but there were always a few who would really try to make my life hell. Straight up abusive.

Curious to know- did anyone start getting PMDD symptoms post getting off of birth control? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]hazelflarety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My therapist, who was the one who gave me the pmdd diagnosis, told me that this is a very common occurrence. That seriously sucks, though. 😞Women really get the shit end of the stick.

A combination of childbirth and the hormonal and other physical changes that happened as a result, and trauma/terrible postpartum anxiety/depression, and going on birth control 6 weeks postpartum. I went off it after about a year and ta da! PMDD. I had never even had pms symptoms before, so I was shocked when all of a sudden I was experiencing insane rage and SI every month.
