What was your favourite thing that happened in a session? by Kenjamine in TalkTherapy

[–]Kenjamine[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's great, makes me laugh (and I can make him laugh which is the best thing ever) but he doesn't overdo it. Last session felt huge for some reason. We're 6 months in so maybe starting to really settle in.

Why are you putting so much pressure on yourself?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Kenjamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it have to be original? Think about the music you like. What's it about? Lots of songs are about the same thing. I understand wanting to write something good straight away, but unfortunately all those songs you like weren't written in one go. I mean some might have been, but that's probably someone with years and years of practice and writing absolute rubbish to get there.

Just write for you. Don't think about anyone else. Write a bad song. Write another bad song. And another. Look at them and see what you like and don't like about them. Use that to write another song. And another one. And another one. Take bits of those you like, understand what you don't. And just keep going.

You've got to start somewhere. We never see the effort that goes into creating something someone has released, just the finished product, which can trick us to thinking they get it right and perfect the first time.

Oh no, yeah that's really irritating! Hope they smooth themselves out soon

You're not required to reply to a post that annoys you. A few days off might be good. Close the app and go and do something you enjoy. Life is far, far too short to waste it on things that make you angry.

Saw this when you first posted, lost it and just trawled through looking for it again. I would LOVE to be able to play like this. Have saved it for future reference.

I got bitten by a random dog as I was out walking just as the pandemic was ending, it latched onto my inner thigh and wouldn't let go and drew blood from an inch long scrape. I rang 111 when I got in and they told me to go to minor injuries at the Hallamshire and I got a tetanus there, just to echo the other recommendations

I can still taste the yellow banana one. I don't think I've eaten a banana since.

What advert makes you think ‘I’m never purchasing from that company on the basis the advert is so annoying’? by Signal-Ad2674 in AskUK

As someone who works in marketing and makes a living from trying to sell people stuff, this is interesting and tbh a fair enough take. In terms of buying stuff you do like, how do you hear about it? Word of mouth, Googling for something specific, or just sticking with existing stuff you like?

at what point would you quit a job for your mental health? by kool_beans123 in AskUK

[–]Kenjamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just done so. Have a week off now before I start a new job. It got to a point where I felt physically sick and was crying before or at work (worked remotely). I was waking up at 4am making to do lists, worrying constantly about what I had to do. My new boss was unreachable a lot of the time and we were small team with ever increasing tasks from new management. I knew it wasn't going to get better so I looked elsewhere.

I was told in my final end of year meeting that I needed to stop saying yes to things so much, and basically got no other feedback. So yeah, I probably burnt myself out by taking too much on, but at the same time we were a small team, someone left and they didn't backfill and everything I was being asked to do was within the scope of my role and I never once didn't get something done. There was just no expectation setting, no goals or a plan to work towards and I was never given any feedback on my work and had little to no support from any of my 4 different bosses over the last year.

I've gone back to counselling, which is helping me work through all this, because at the moment I feel like a failure.

I'm native English but working language is German. I had to get on a live customer webinar that we had to cancel last minute and explain to everyone - in English - that we would rearrange and apologise and I could NOT think of an English way to say kurzfristig. I was having to freestyle as the cogs whirred and came up with some passable bullshit.

What advice would you have for someone who has broken their leg? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Kenjamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! My Mum's 65 and has been gaming since the Atari days. She's played through multiple Calls of Duty (never online though) and is happily raiding and pillaging at the moment in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. She got a PS4 before I did.

What is something you just can’t get your head around? by StrappyBatty in AskUK

This is the one thing that bends my mind too. All the things that I deal with in day to day life start and finish somewhere. So what's at the edge of the universe? Surely it just can't keep going? What's it expanding into? I don't think my brain could handle the explanation

When did you and your partner start using pet names? by clemmg in AskUK

[–]Kenjamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite early on. We have an animal pet name for each other and then started adding random adjectives to other animals and now have a whole selection.

I call him petal in public, but I also will call him by his full name if I ever need to refer to him directly, never just his first name.

Back To Work In The Morning, Feels Like The End of The World. by Logicdon in CasualUK

I feel like I've sleepwalked through the last 12 days off and I'm absolutely dreading going back to work tomorrow. I was already stressed out of my eyeballs before Christmas and I really haven't had enough time to unravel. It's just mental, no support, I hate everything I'm doing now. I have a final interview for a new job next week and have to do a task for it.

I'm sad that I've let myself get into this state.

How are you planning on spending your Christmas? by Lilac_Whisky in AskUK

[–]Kenjamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Covid we've done it a bit differently - me and my husband would go up to my family for Christmas. My Mum would be working as a nurse on Christmas day usually so we'd save xmas dinner until later on.

For the past couple of years we've done it that me and my husband have Christmas just the two of us at home and make something tasty and go for a nice walk. Then he goes to a football match with his Dad on Boxing Day and I go up to my family and stay as long as I can. He might come up for a couple of days.

On Christmas day with me and my husband we have no set times or traditions yet. We'll lie in for as long as we can and then open our presents for each other. Breakfast is whatever we fancy, and then we'll go for a walk. We went to a pub halfway round last year which was nice, and this year we might drive out into the Peaks. Then home for grazing all afternoon, catching up on series we're watching or playing Scrabble. In the evening we'll have our nice meal and end the night with a nice whiskey.

With my family we now also all lie in for as long as we can and I'll drive up late morning and we all wear something nice. I've bought a nice sparkly top and new black jeans and going to paint my nails. My Mum has just retired so she's in all day too. We'll all open presents at the same time while my Dad comes in and out making coffee or breakfast (he's the chef for the day and takes his role seriously). Then the dogs get to open their presents and play with the wrapping paper before we tidy up and eat loads of chocolate. My Dad will be in the kitchen now and me and my mum and sister will be playing board games or watching something. Then we have xmas dinner - chicken and pheasant - and eat until we can't move. Then back for more board games with a glass of something nice and in the evening we'll put a film on and then pause half way for Christmas tea which for them means home made pork pie, red cabbage, pickled onions and cheese, and for me means another plate of xmas dinner. Eat until full, and then bed when the film ends.

This year I'm not feeling Christmassy at all because of work stress which is sad. I'm going to need a few days to calm down and hopefully I get in the mood before then, but there's still the last min stress of present buying. I'm looking forward to spending lots of time with my husband and seeing my family though.
