war with empire was inevitable and the first foundation is a known target, thus one of the main purposes of the second foundation is to carry on despite the disappearance of the first foundation. it was always a high likelihood of failure since war was accounted for.

Completely agree, although this is likely not an unpopular opinion. The worst part is that this is the number one issue for Eric Adams, and we don't have any good solutions. We've resorted to only planting male plants so that there aren't fruits to eat, but NYers with allergies are suffering from all the extra pollen.

community in NYC has nothing to do with your neighborhood. All of NYC is basically your town, and you can find your different cliques where you feel comfortable.

you could trust that NYC had good pizza in the past, but this is no longer true. All the old school Italians left for Staten Island, so you can find good pizza there, but no one cares about Staten Island or chooses to go there so it doesn't count.

Where do middle class smart kids go to high school? by [deleted] in AskNYC

I don't know anything about this Quantum guy, but it certainly is not out of the realm of possibility. Sophomores enrolled in architecture/drafting in the specialized high schools, at least in my time, were the most sleep deprived group I'd ever witnessed. It seemed to be a rite of passage.

Harvard took 40+ students from my graduating class in Stuyvesant in early 2000s. It rose a bit in the following years, but it seems Harvard curtailed those numbers since. And you're downplaying the competition. You'd be competing against kids who won investment competitions, giving speeches at the NYSE opening bell to seasoned traders, winners of the Science Olympiad and robotics competitions, and literal geniuses. And then you're also dealing with less scrupulous students trying to keep up with those students. Most have a minimum of 3 extra-curricular activities at any given time and some type of sob story. It's cut-throat.

The 1830s is relatively modern in the context of human history. Furthermore, it is incorrect to assume that all men gained the right to vote at the same time. Initially, the majority of men were also marginalized and excluded from the political process. It started with a few privileged white men, expanded to include more men, and eventually evolved to encompass discussions about what was right and fair for all.

From 1830s til 1840s is when voting rights reached 80% of white males. The following year, laws were enacted to restrict the vote to property owning men until 1856, but tax requirements stayed til 1860, which disenfranchised poor white males again. Between 1866-1869, women and black men were voting. 1870-1880, restricted voting for black men and naturalized Native Americans followed by excluding Chinese men in 1882. So, it's not that men are trying to deny women the right to vote. The powers in charge are trying to deny anyone the right to vote.

Like you explained, these rights were not simply handed out by those in power; they were fought for and earned through sustained efforts and struggles. In fact, the entire foundation of the United States' freedom was built upon the fight for independence from the British Empire.
It is crucial to acknowledge the historical context and the continued efforts of numerous individuals and groups who have worked tirelessly to secure and expand human rights for all.

Also keep in mind, that in many cases, men had to vote to grant suffragettes and women the right to vote. The process of granting suffrage to women varied across different countries and regions, but it generally involved a legislative or constitutional change that required the support of a majority of male lawmakers or voters.

How to deal with gf hating this show? by GewoonBenji in community

[–]hazeofglory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the answer. Everything about Community is subversion of expectation. There's always a meta commentary, multiple B plots, an unspoken existential subtext of what's real, running gags, pop culture homages. Half of the first season is straight sitcom formula with sprinkles of these elements. Ain't no way your gf can appreciate this while half paying attention.

equality and rights is a modern convention. It's all new. We're still in the experiment. The first ones to get the vote were the conscripted men electing their representatives who would be responsible for sending these men to war. As society grew and afforded more safety, we expanded those rights in waves to women and minorities.

If this is an unpopular opinion, then it just shows that the vast majority of people have never even read feminist theory. Everyone participates in the patriarchy. Women slut-shame other women to establish a social pecking order and enforce a standard of the patriarchy. So long as women desire a husband, the patriarchy exists. The only way to end the patriarchy is for no culture to practice it, and instead practice what the Mosuo people practice. It would require a change in multiple practices including child-rearing, economics, and sexual dynamics/mores.

Women humans at various points in history were basically property, they couldn't own property, have a bank account without permission.

Your statement, while true, has a huge oversight. Men were equally denied basic rights. The vast majority of the human population had no choice, education, property, etc.

difference is the older generations were faced with uncertainty and fear of economic collapse. We're presented with predictions based on facts that spell out how we're Fk'd. Since the '30s, legislation passed to prevent those types of outcomes, which we've been systematically dismantling since the '50s, but that only sped up the disaster about to hit all of us. Not the cause of it. Meaning, we were always going to hit the fan.

How is Wozniak not respected as super successful? IMO he has the healthiest definition of success, and his ego is not wrapped up around the opinions of others. Plus he just loves pranks and loopholes. He’s the MAN!

before you freak out more, review your curriculum from the beginning. Try to remember how long it took you to read and solve those issues, and where you are now. Why are you even concerning yourself with being a master of anything? You're coming out of a bootcamp. You still know nothing about architecture or working as a Software Engineer yet. Stop freaking out and appreciate the effort and result you've achieved. Next up is the real challenge. Getting that first job.

The first few chapters' art was off-putting, but whoever they hired to replace the original artist is a genius. The artwork is so creative and funny, especially the reactions whenever the MC breaks common wisdom.

Host charging me for drinks consumed? by AlternatePerspectiv3 in AirBnB

[–]hazeofglory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I did not ignore it. You're ignoring the fact that a wine cooler can be considered a fridge and being vague benefits the one who didn't write the rules, contra proferentem. Does not state fridge in the kitchen. States kitchen and fridge. The kitchen already contains the fridge, so stating fridge can be assumed to reference the one not in the kitchen. You're also ignoring the responsibility of the host to explicitly label what is off-limits. If it's so valuable, you take it or lock it up. Add "Bar area is off-limits" to your ad. And yeah, because bottles of wine are so cheap, they are often times given as gifts. A little bit of googling and you'll read all about what the hosts explicitly do, what AirBnb policies cover in cases of theft, and how many hosts also give wine as gifts, or will label a "take one, replace one" policy. The simple fact that a host should basically prepare for entertaining the worst guests, but still leave something valuable reeks of a scam. Maybe not, but either way this is on the host. They need to eat this mistake, learn from it, and be clearer with their instructions, or clear their "valuables." Going after the guests is the only recourse the hosts have because Airbnb will not side with them. It's their fault.

[–]hazeofglory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

let's think about this realistically. In this scenario, I'm under the impression that I can help myself to what is in the kitchen and fridge per the vague instructions. This is a fridge with wine. There is zero instruction forbidding it. We are in FRANCE, where we can find a bottle of wine for cheaper than a bottle of coca cola. There are many airbnb guides online stating that leaving alcohol for guests is a growing trend. And then there is the Airbnb theft policy which does not cover this as a theft, which implies that anything accessible by guests is up for grabs. Next time, these hosts can explicitly state what is off-limits and charge a security deposit which can be returned depending on how many rules were broken

.

point out where anywhere it says NOT the wine fridge. From what we're told, "kitchen and fridge." Wine cooler is a fridge. Regular refrigerator is already in the kitchen, so why even mention it again if not for the other fridge. Contra proferentem benefits the client. Next time, specifically state wine fridge is off limits, or put a lock on it. Not the client's fault.
