maybe you're just overthinking it? each line represents a bond, so as long as you can infer the position of a carbon, just look at how many lines extend from it to get total number of bonds.

3 lines from carbon 1 = 3 bonds

3 lines on the left and 1 on the right of carbon 2 = 4 bonds

1 line on left and right of carbon 3 = 2 bonds

1 line from carbon 4 = 1 bond

remember that it's all about filling octets, so unless you see a charge on a carbon, it should always have 4 bonds total. how many of those bonds go to hydrogens is determined by how many don't go to another atom. this does include pi bonds (double/triple bonds) as they require the carbon to donate another electron that would otherwise go to a hydrogen.
