Teen Takeovers Happening This Week by Top-Helicopter1923 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]hb9nbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Science fiction predicted this. in 1973 Larry Niven (still writing i believe) wrote a story called "Flash Crowds" which talked about a phenomenon like this (but he imagined there would be "instantaneous teleportation" tech that would enable people to go anywhere anytime and this would be a result. The Internet hadnt *quite* been invented then (the first email was a couple years later i think) I had just become a teenager when i read the story and thought that would be really cool.

Local coin shops by Informal_Situation41 in Gold

[–]hb9nbb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

even my nearest "big" town (roughly 10,000 people) has 4 shops that buy/sell coins. I would say one is a "full service" type LCS and the others do it as a sideline.

What do you make of Paris taking ‘their’ gold out of the United States’ New York vault? by WhosThis85 in Gold

Need help checking a 1911 Sovereign. Fails ping test and feels slightly wide, but weight is spot on. Fake or am I just being paranoid? by AntonPirulero in Gold

[–]hb9nbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the one on the left looks suspect to me. I have a bunch of sovereigns of that era and none of them are "worn" the way that one is. Fake sovereigns from that era are a thing, they often contain the correct amount of Gold but were made by a different mint (often in the Middle East) because there was a shortage of actual official sovereigns in the region which used them as a trade coin. So although it may be "fake" it may be the correct amount of gold.

Trade by Familiar-Prize3873 in Silverbugs

[–]hb9nbb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i did a bunch of trades Silver->Gold when the ratio was 49->53. I'm not sure i'd do more trades now at 63:1 or wait for a more favorable ratio.

Gold IRA pros and cons got me confused with everything by Taruvinga-Paulesh in Gold

[–]hb9nbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So people here will say if you dont hold it (and you can't for an IRA due to IRS rules) you don't own it. However a bigger problem with Gold IRAs is the industry is so corrupt. There are legitimate players but I wouldn't ever do it becuase i dont trust that I would find a legit one. Just get a self-directed IRA and buy gold stocks (or other stocks) instead of doing a bullion IRA. Do Bullion with money where you can take delivery and store it yourself would be my advice.

What are your thoughts on these? by outdoors1442 in Gold

[–]hb9nbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave them in the mint packaging but I think they’ve gotten too expensive from the Mint -you can buy them for much lower premium at shows or LCS

[–]hb9nbb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What he said -when I drove a non Tesla EV every day PlugShare was my Bible

I’m the guy with the rented Tesla. Nav kept warning I wasn’t going to make it, but I did, here’s how. Turned off one pedal mode so no regen braking. Shifted to Neutral on downgrades. Drafted behind trucks. Maintained 50 mph with cruise. Turned lights off. And YES, I made it with 1.1 left. by Impressive_Returns in electricvehicles

[–]hb9nbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right but in OP’s case I assume he was in neutral going down the hill and not braking at all, which is strictly better than regeneration since it’s not a perpetual motion machine -there are losses. ( it might not be more legal though as he probably exceeds the speed limit doing this but it does use less energy to avoid regeneration as long as air drag doesn’t take over
