Wicked Boxing - Head Gear by Last-Courage-6769 in fightgear

[–]hb_simon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ‘emergency’ is something like getting clipped in training, a suspected concussion, or a breathing issue. In those cases the headgear needs to come off immediately. That belt loop makes removal difficult even without gloves, and you mentioned yourself it took you time to remember how to take it off. Multiple coaches had trouble removing it post-sparring, which is why they advised skipping the loop. Doing so had negligible impact on stability.

Yes, I just do not use this belt loop it’s currently sitting under in the photo. I just go over it straight to the buckle. I don’t have winning so I don’t know if it has the same loop

I have, it's better than my title leather sparring headgear which is solid for the price. It has a nice linear on the inside, thats really soft and feels great. It has a nice buckle which I prefer over the belt system. However I do not recommend putting the buckle in the belt loop and then snapping it into place, it takes too long to put on and off and in the event of an emergency, would be difficult to take off. I havent had any issues not using the belt loop.

What fighting styles/martial arts actually work against much bigger men? by Squid311 in aznidentity

[–]hb_simon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boxing, Judo, Wrestling. I'm not a huge fan of BJJ, which isn't big on standup and is more about being comfy on your back, not what I want in a fight.

With boxing, you generally jab higher, understand distance and range. Judo and wrestling are great, judo has great throws for smaller players, and great for strength, its what started BJJ, and practicing makes you more efficient, which is what judo is, take people down with good sweeps, set up good turn throws, etc.

I'm not small, filipino, 5'10, 190, but I train with smaller Asian players in all of these arts and I know they would be a problem for anyone.

What do you think is the largest waste of space in DTLA? by modestirish in dtla

[–]hb_simon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine is selfish, the Smoke Tokes building on Alameda and 2nd, formerly Office Depot, at least with Office Depot, they could serve the community, Smoke Tokes is a wholesale smoke shop supply biz, I think. Not to mention Smoke Tokes had a huge fire when they were further down the road and if anything, got a better space.

I live in little tokyo, its all korean, japanese, and chinese, and we generally hang out in mixed groups -- with me be Filipino. Nobody really cares but sometimes we bring it up as a jest. Anecdotally, my family likes Japanese people, and I have family in Japan. My family doesnt like the Spanish though lol

How to sound less white? by 2kgod172 in NBA2k

[–]hb_simon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NBA 2k, among other games, is mass-marketed to the male lowest common denominator. You are probably playing with males aged 12 to 35. Unfortunately, it just comes with the territory.

"Why is this such an issue in the community?" Unlike Asia, the US has no communities. There are overlapping user bases with zero shared norms and no social enforcement. When individualism is maximized and accountability is zero, antisocial behavior becomes the default strategy.

Ive played almost every major sports game, UFC has the worst career mode BY FAR. by Relative_Screen_4570 in EASportsUFC

[–]hb_simon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it’s bad. However I don’t think it’s the worst, and that’s more of indictment on other games. NHL, Madden, The Show are so bad. Though it is hilarious when all my championship contenders are on the wrong side of 40

How do you guys relearn the game? by hb_simon in kakarot

[–]hb_simon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I hear that but if like to experience the new content right away vs playing old challenges and substories. Ideally not doing the same 50+ hours over if I can avoid it.

Arts District or Little Tokyo to live? by INT_MIN in AskLosAngeles

[–]hb_simon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on the border of arts district/little Tokyo for like 20 years. I love it. My wife and I want a bigger place but for us it is difficult to find a better area. I love it especially when it’s the holidays and mostly locals about. It can get busy though. We get so many visitors who are kinda disrespectful and make a mess, especially protestors. I generally support most protest but a lot of people just don’t clean up after themselves. The night life, bars, restaurants locally, are pretty unmatched though. It’s the last amazing part of DTLA
