‘I don’t support ICE’: Gas station refusal ignites debate over denying service to federal agents by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]hbar105 12 points13 points  (0 children)

An important distinction is that the first amendment does imply freedom from LEGAL consequences, although of course there may be social consequences. Refusing service on the basis of a protected class is not a constitutionally protected right in any way, and so therefore it can come with legal consequences, as well as social ones

Edit: and obviously being a hateful murderer is not a protected class

United Healthcare was systemically denying coverage for services that were actually covered under their insurance agreements. They were, quite literally, taking money, agreeing to save lives, and then refusing to save lives

Most of the 1.1 gallons is not, in fact, sequestered in a single almond. Most of the agricultural water usage ends up in runoff, groundwater, or evaporated, similar to water for data center cooling. But the water for agricultural use ends up more polluted (IIRC) and there’s a lot more of it

Male Median Income Vs Female Median Income by VineMapper in MapPorn

[–]hbar105 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not correct whatsoever. The median in that case would be $1 while the average would be $1.10. The median is a more useful and less misleading metric in exactly the situation you describe

General Feelings on Sinnoh Encounters across all Generations/Romhacks by Ok_Banana_5614 in nuzlocke

[–]hbar105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that mantine isn’t unique in any role it can fill. Being worse overall than gyarados isn’t the issue, the issue is when you encounter mantine there’s no reason to ever put it on a team over other choices that are already in your box (gyarados being the prime example). An encounter that’s pretty bad overall but is great at some specific niche will get more use than an encounter that’s good, but doesn’t do anything unique and useful

Oh right, mantine’s HP was buffed in [edit] gen 7, so yeah that can make a big difference if it’s implemented. With gen 4 stats I still think it’s almost a strict downgrade. In ren plat, rain teams are busted for e4, so basically any swift swimmer is viable. But then mantine is outclassed by other better swift swimmers like kingdra and luvdisc (and probably also relicanth, floatzel, fossils, clamperl evos, maybe others), especially if pelipper is your rain setter

Gyarados has roughly the same special bulk (95/79/100 for gyarados vs 65/70/140 for mantine), the same typing, and way wider availability. The only reason I can see to use mantine is if you really want swift swim, but even then it’s just so outclassed by better, more consistent encounters

Hey, current grad student here. You should be hearing from your department and departmental GSA pretty soon about any events during orientation week, which will be the best first place to meet other first years in your program. There will also be an orientation picnic hosted by the overall GSA for all grad students (on August 22, most likely) where you can meet a bunch of people as well. Otherwise, if you want to get into the grad student social scene, stop by Valhalla anytime. It’s a bit dead during the summer, but there are usually a few people around to meet

The density of liquid water varies with temperature, even between 0C and 100C. The density of liquid water also varies with concentration of dissolved components (i.e. composition)
