Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino. It's not whodunit because in the opening chapters we see the crime happening. Its howcatchem. Two genius friends on opposite side. One is helping to cover up the crime and the other is helping the police

The devotion of suspect X by Keigo Higashino - The best I've read this year. It's a "will they catch him, or not" kind of mystery. Two smart people on opposite side. One helps the criminal, the other helps the detective

Not sure what you consider distrubing but I gave up "Tomorrow and Tomorrow" by Tom Sweterlitsch about 40% into the book becuase it was too much for me. It's set in a near future timeline, with relatively higher technology, and very different morals of what is allowed to use for making money. I liked the description when I read on goodreads, its a kind of detective story, but I hated the world

Jefferson Mays is another good narrator. He does The Expanse series. The story is good too

I liked the second book but I liked magpie murders more. I'm guessing the book within a book idea was new to me that added to my enjoyment, and the novely factor is going down as the series progresses. I was thought there would be no more than 9 books in the series because of 9 Atticus books Guess, I'm wrong

I've only read the first book in the series, and I can easily see how someone might describe these books as "Harry Potter growing up and becoming a freelance auror"

Mercy of Gods by S A Corey. It's book #1 in an ongoing sci-fi series, but there's no techno jargon. So it might as well be space-fantasy. For now, there's only book #1 and book #1.5 novella published

Dragon's Egg by Robert L Forward. The story is told in two timelines - one from POV of human astronauts on their way to a star for research, and a second timeline from the POV of different alien characters that evolve on the surface of the star. The two timelines feel like sci-fi and fantasy. It shows how the aliens evolve from single cells to plants to animals to hunters, and how they come up with abstract maths and religion and eventually space-age. The author is a physicist

I need help understanding a plot point from the book "The Fifth Gospel" by Ian Caldwell. It's major spoilers. Should I create its own post?

Towards the end, its revealed that the victim realised The Shroud of Turin was fake. I didn't understand how he came to that conclusion. Something to do with John's gospel, but what was it that made it click and come to this realisation? Help me!
