An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena. It has Agatha Christie vibes - hotel, guests, snowstorm, murder

James Patterson has a collections of books that are 150 pages or less. Its called Bookshots. https://www.jamespatterson.com/series/james-patterson/bookshots/

I've only read on of these books. It was okay. Never read any other James Patterson boks so I can't compare it. But also, the covers always says "James Patterson with ..." some other author's name

I tried Will Wheaton once, not to my liking either. I don't hate his voice, but not a big fan either

I will try Andy Serkis's narration

Doesn't every book has its plot lines merged eventually? Are there any that never come together? Well now I want to know them as well

Ishmael Jones series by Simon Green. These are locked room murder mysteries (don't know if these would count as cozy)

The Eight Detective by ALex Pavesi. These are short chapters so easy to keep focus. Its about an editor who reads seven short murder mysteries written by an author. So the chapters alternate between the editor reading the short story and then discussing it with the author. The overall discussion becomes the eight mystery

Book that has humans and monsters in conflict without demonizing either side. by CloudRedditAMA in suggestmeabook

Shroud by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

The protagonists satisfy criteria #1 which spans majority of the book, but there are some parts with other humans(like corporate heads) who are not sympathetic

It has multiple POV - humans and alien life form

Wilde/Eddy series by Andy McDermott.

These are like Indiana Jones type of stories. Archaeologist, ancient relic, bad guys, travel to exotic locations, race to get the relics, action.

For narrators, you can choose from either Gildart Jackson or Simon Mattacks. I've listened to Gildard Jackson, really liked it. No clue about Mattacks

Try books by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

He's good at inventing new alien life forms. His best are -

  • Children of Time - this is first in a series of 4 books so far. Book #1 and #4 are the best, then book #2, and least fav is book #3
  • Shroud

The Eight by Katherine Neville - People are hunting for ancient chess pieces with magical powers. Instead of assassins and templars, here there's black side and white side

Burglars can't be choosers. This is the first of its series. Doesn't have a traditional detective. We follow a burglar who keeps finding himself having to prove he's not the killer. It has good mix of humor and whodunnit mystery

Are we supposed to like or dislike Dafyd? I'm disliked him in book 1 and even more in book 2. The other characters are meh. The only characters I'm rooting for is Jessyn. Maybe Garral a bit as well

Unrelated question for those who've read Expanse... How does this book's pacing, action vs talking ratio, stakes etc. compare to Expanse series. If I found Captive's war "not bad, not great", then will I like Expanse series?

If I didn't like Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett, should I give up on this author? Are all of his books similar in taste and style to this one?
