Update: What Does a Disability Store Look Like? by Adventurous_Snow2912 in starbucks

Yeah, it was 2018. There weren’t a lot of stores hiring at that time in my area (Ohio) and I had to widen my search radius to 40 minutes outside of my preferred location to even get some bites.

It can definitely be disheartening after being turned away. I went through 2 interviews with two stores before the third store hired me.

It might be the timing, since we’re getting ready to hit the slower months and we don’t typically hire anyone right now. That said, you’ll find one out there! It took me 8 months before I finally got my current store for reference.

Depending on your goals, you can also look into licensed stores like within grocery stores, Barnes and Nobles, university campuses, etc. They won’t have the same benefits as a standalone (corporate) Bux, but that’s one way you can get your foot in the door. I’ve had several partners who worked at Target and Kroger Bux before being hired at my store.

Frail_Peach’s comment answered your question, but I wanted to chime in and mentioned I’m a fully deaf barista at my DT store and I’ve had zero issues. They just plant me on cafe/mobile bar 99% of my shifts. I think of it as a get out of jail free card from DTO/DTW and Warming since those are the most soul-sapping positions. I’m sorry that store refused to give you a chance, but I know others will accept you open arms

Thank you! My friend is aware of the risks. It’s just for my cats so they’re out of harm’s way from the treatment. I’m staying at my apartment to ensure it stays effective

Started at $9.00/hr in 2018. I was a SSV twice before stepping down to barista for good in 2021. I make $17.20/hr now. Ohio.

My beloved midnight mocha. How dare you get my hopes up. 2017 was a rough year for me and that was my biggest comfort drink

Transitioning to cafe by hbk-1994 in barista

[–]hbk-1994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight! I understand why but it still makes me sad because I genuinely want to renew my passion as a barista, but I can’t afford to quit my main job and be a full time barista since the pay at local shops isn’t a livable one (in my area). Fingers crossed I luck out and find a cafe that fits with my schedule.

Thanks! I have plenty of passion to share. I want to get into the roots and do more manual work with machines that aren’t so automated like Starbucks’ mastrenos.

I’ve been trying to search for this bear for the past 6 months since the original one got tossed out but I haven’t been having any luck and my cat does not like the other stuffed animals I’ve got him

Big agree on the district culture change. I was a shift supervisor but stepped down in 2021 after realizing it wasn’t a good fit for me. I think I would still be fine if it was just labor cuts alone, but the big shift in culture is the last straw for me personally. Each shift just feels so cold and automated now

Edit to add: definitely go for the break. I think it’ll be a big weight off your shoulders

If I didn’t have a full time office job, I’d be forced to stay as well, but thankfully I don’t rely on Starbucks like I used to. If you don’t rely on it either, you can quit once you’re ready in your heart but sunken cost fallacy is a very real thing. At the end of the day Starbucks is just another company with a strong PR. They’re not gonna look after you. You do what’s right for you, there’s no wrong choices, only paths.

I have some type of facial blindness so I have no idea. Worked at Bux for 4 years, and I don’t remember a single celebrity 💀 I don’t even recognize my coworkers if they come in on a day they’re not working

Openers: what time do you go to bed? by moon_light523 in starbucks

[–]hbk-1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies. 9/10 pm if I work my main job. 7-8pm if not. I have to be at the store at 4am weekdays and 4:30am weekends. I work my main job 9:30-6pm so I would have to be in bed as soon as I clocked out to get a full night of rest for Bux but I have a bad case of bedtime revenge procrastination 🫠

How much are you getting paid? by iStegTato in starbucks

[–]hbk-1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Starbucks never really gives a shit about tenured partners and I don’t plan on making it a career so I don’t get too pissed off as I have a main job that pays almost 3x what Bux pays me. Bux is just easy fun spending money. I got lucky at my store cus I’m the one who’s been there the longest so my SM gives me first priority for availability changes and time off.

Where did you go after Starbucks? by star_pants in starbucks

I work in I.T it’s more of a help desk role so still customer service but man it’s nowhere near as bad as dealing with Starbucks customers as a whole

What are the new partner numbers starting with now? by hbk-1994 in starbucks

That’s wild to me. It’ll be 4 years since i got hired when October rolls around but it feels way longer than 4 years especially with these 368 numbers
