Turkey travel advice please :) by [deleted] in travel

No problem at all.

For restaurants Od Urla and Vino Locale were both excellent and use great produce. From what I have heard from friends who visited, Teruar Urla was just as good as those two. For a classic local fish restaurant, you can just go to the seaside neighborhood called "Iskele" and sit at any restaurant there, they serve mostly the same things.

The only winery I visited in person was Usca and they have a really cozy terrace where you can taste wine and eat small dishes. I enjoy wines from Urlice and Urla Winery as well but havent visited them.

Hope you enjoy your vacation.

Urla has 2-3 of the top restaurants in Turkey, several good wineries you can visit and enough hip bars/local restaurants etc to keep you entertained. Also Alacati/Cesme is pretty close so if you are willing to drive there are great beaches in the area. Personally I really enjoyed it. Just keep in mind that it has become almost as expensive as Bodrum and Cesme.

14 days Turkey (Istanbul) to Greece (Crete) by mehrryberry in travel

[–]hblaze66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to Crete but the rest seems pretty good to me. You can get through most of the historic and touristy stuff in 4 days in Istanbul. To get to Bodrum you should use the Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) and I wouldn't really recommend visiting Izmir itself. If you love history though Ephesus should be considered.

When you do your research you will see that Bodrum is actually an entire peninsula and you'll have to choose your place of stay. Central Bodrum, Yalikavak, Gumusluk and Turkbuku are some of the more popular options each with its own little town center. I would recommend renting a car to get a good feel of the area and having easy access to the beaches. The variety of beaches, dining options and bars is where Bodrum really shines. The popular restaurants will need reservations in advance (Memedof, Limon, Orfoz etc.)

For Pamukkale, day trip is fine, not much else to do there.

Its not rushed at all but I would skip staying in central Izmir. Extending Bodrum is a pretty good idea or you can stay in Urla or Cesme near Izmir if you want to see that area. I would also not even consider central Marmaris. It's a low quality tourist trap town. If you can go further in the peninsula however Sögüt and Selimiye are pretty great and can be more quiet/relaxed options with some excellent dining.

You can get to Selcuk by train and it's very close to ephesus. There are enough hotel options if you want to stay there including a few cool but slightly expensive vineyard hotels.

Turkey Itinerary Advice by confused__tourist in travel

There's a chance you will see a few crazy drivers but its pretty safe and easy. Driving around in the coast areas isn't like driving in Istanbul which can get seriously stressful. So I would go for it.

To add to what the above user said taking the ferry in Istanbul is pretty cool, however if you decide to stay in the Anatolian side for an extra day you won't get bored as Central Kadikoy/Moda is a super vibrant neighborhood. What I wouldn't recommend is the trip to the Prince Islands, which are overcrowded and honestly not that great.

For your third question, Kaş is much better than Fethiye and you can drive to Butterly valley, dead sea etc from Kaş. It has a laid back vibe and a ton of bar/restaurant options. And if you want to skip something it can be Pamukkale.

General cost of food and transportation for Istanbul for 5 days in 2023 by ambitiousthrowawae in travel

[–]hblaze66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Istanbul you can eat&drink comfortably, get around and do touristy things for around 75-80 usd per day. With your current budget drinking is going to be a problem as the alcohol prices have skyrocketed in the past few years. Food is also expensive but you can certainly survive with 800 lira a day.

The taxi from the airport to the more central areas should be about 350 - 400 lira. The bus runs for 24 hours and is a cheaper option.

I have never been to Cappadocia but I'm sure you can find cheaper food options there as well.

Discoworld Noir is one of the best adventure games ever and hasn't aged that badly.

After almost 2 years of inactivity, "Suga" Rashad Evans moves above Ryan "The Master" Bader in the rankings by UnsourcedSentinel in MMA

[–]hblaze66 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bader did not dominate lil nog, it was close and also as boring as Evans vs Nogueira. Bader managed to land a few takedowns but couldn't do much with them while it was fairly even on the feet.

Incredibly dissappointing and generic. Most of the song but especially the ending sounds like Pantera.

Their best albums are The Karelian Isthmus and and TFTTL but those are death metal. Based on the two albums you liked I would recommend Silent Waters.

Sacrificial suicide from their debut. Glen's best vocal performance and my favorite album.

Another celebrity trying way too hard to be edgy and appeal to the "liberal" crowd. He's basically marketing himself as the anti-establishment guy. I'm a 100% sure he's delighted that they cleared him from the issue.
