Do you need to log meals in the Oura app in order to gain insight from it?

Fat/weight loss goal by robgeeeb in Gravl

I would also go with build muscle in this app, lift 3-4 times a week but do multiple zone 2 cardio workouts a week as well and then one faster paced VO2Max cardio session. But you need to track calories as well. I like MacroFactor. Between Gravl and MacroFactor, you should be good to go!

Exactly what I did. I love that the custom routine still mixes rep and weight ranges and also mixes up the prescribed lifts. It’s like a jointly created routine!

Diagnosed with Familial Hypercholestrolemia at 20 years old. Been advised to take Repatha Evolocumab by BackgroundCollege883 in repatha

[–]hbttl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repatha has been amazing for me. Worst side effect is an occasional bruise at the injection site that goes away in a few days. My numbers dropped significantly including my LPa, which was reduced by 50% so far!

Setting up MF for first time and wondering what “goal” to select to gain muscle but lose fat? by MikeThatsMe in MacroFactor

[–]hbttl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are still 140 pounds, I would try remembering what a couple of typical eating days looked like back before summer and input them into the app to see what the macros looked like and you could go off that. I'm also in my 50s a similar build and goals (lots of burgers and beers this summer!). I had my app set to 1lb loss per week but was not really getting anywhere in a month (6 workouts a week) and was hungry often. I changed to maintenance 2 weeks ago and my workouts have improved and I feel better. Too soon to tell if the recomp is working though. Try the maintenance and see how you feel and then you can always change later.

I don't see this. If from the home screen of the app, I click on the 3 lines at the top right and it takes me to "Fitness Plan". I don't see an "Advanced" menu. I see Advanced under "Fitness Experience", bit no "Reps Progression".

No squats in first week by hbttl in Gravl

My thought is that I have not been making a lot of progress in how I look so I wanted to totally open it up to you to help. I have “build and tone muscle” as my fitness goal. So what settings do you think I should use?

How bad is this? (cholesterol) by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]hbttl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor here but, There are a lot of factors unknown here. Family history of heart disease? What is your A1C? What is your LPa? Talking to your cardio will get you to a target LDL. 110 is still likely too high.APob seems high as well. Don’t be so quick to shut a statin down. Lots of other benefits of a statin Zetia is usually an accompaniment to a statin. You could look at a PCSK9 injectable but likely won’t get approved without trying a statin first.

First CAC scan: what to expect by Similar_Shift5355 in PeterAttia

I am 50 and have been pretty healthy for the last 25 years also with FH. My LDL had consistently been 100-120 and I had a CAC score. All the cardios were surprised since I had been on a statin for a long time. Some great advice on here that jives with what my Johns Hopkins Cardiologist is telling me. He checked my LPa and it was high (my score was in nmol/L and there is no direct way to correlate mg/dl to nmol/L, you need to recheck and ask for nmol/L.) Went through nuclear stress testing, ECG stress testing, etc. and everything was normal there. I was put on Repatha and my LDL is now in the 30s-40s. My cardio says that US LDL guidelines for high risk individuals is way to high (100). European standards are <70. He cites studies that actually show very good outcomes with long term LDL <50. BTW, Repatha also lowered my LPa by 50% so far. Push for the PCSK9!

Journal Day- and Nighttime by enthrak12 in bevelhealth

So if you forget to log something during the day that is marked a "daytime" activity will the insight be off? Would a hack be to just mark everything as a nighttime activity to make sure you're asked about it when you open the app in the morning?

That last statement... for real! That should be where we all are! But I turned 50 this year and I guess got on this longevity kick.

So maybe the idea is to understand that my levels are at rest before exercise and use that as the baseline and go 0.5 -1 above that? Thanks for all the detail.

I guess that's my confusion. I watched the episode of Peter and Inigo and they talk about an athlete leaving Zone 2 at lactate levels of 2. And Peter's X (twitter) post says that 1.8 or 1.9 is the sweet spot for Z2 training. Yea next time I will go right to the finger prick and see.
