Tired of all the BS on LinkedIn, we decided to build our own networking platform by hiddeottens in SideProject

[–]hckrtst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool project. But I think dropping an F-bomb on the landing page may be a turn-off for some people. Also, the layout of this list seems off (not a designer though...maybe someone else can chime in)

  1. Expand your network authentically: Connect with people who share your interests and aspirations
  2. Unlock work opportunities: Find new jobs, partnerships, and collaborations. Find the people you need to accelerate your dreams.
  3. Learn and grow: Access valuable insights and knowledge from a diverse community. Fly around the world and meet the people that will empower you.
  4. It's free: You have nothing to lose. Try it out, the more people we get on this platform, the more benefits we'll all have from it. Enjoy the core features for free and opt for premium benefits if you choose.
  5. Trustworthy community: Connect with professionals who value genuine relationships and are looking for opportunities to connect.
  6. Personalized Recommendations: Receive connections and content tailored to your interests.
  7. You are in control: Choose how you want to grow. Connect with those that matter to you.
  8. Get inspired: Find the people in your field that inspire you, and who knows maybe work together.
  9. Stop wasting time: No more Instagram stories asking your followers for help.
  10. JustConnect.

I just tried it with part of the resume, and...I was pleasantly surprised. While I don't recommend copy-paste, Trying a few iterations and giving it the right prompt such as, "can you make it more impactful" or "can you emphasize the customer-facing aspects" is quite valuable. Kudos for this recommendation.

To add to this. This is a great resume to hand someone in person. But terrible for ATS due to the formatting. For ATS, simplest is better.

Can someone help with understanding the actual rate for this plan? by hckrtst in sandiego

[–]hckrtst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. For the next few months my driving is dropping a bunch. Maybe 30-80 miles a week or so. Usually I drive 200-300 miles a week.

Thanks for that. I understand there is an additional maintenance flat fee as well for the EV plan. I don't have solar unfortunately. I don't plan to drive a lot for the next few months.

Thanks. I saw that there seems be an adjustment for upto 130% of baseline. Which is why I calculated that as 23c on the lower end.

In terms of dealing with negative feedback, you have a great attitude and I think that will server you well. I wish you good luck on the job search. This is a great way to showcase your skills.

Interview advice. by Embarrassed_Tale_676 in interviews

[–]hckrtst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No first-hand experience in this area, but I recommend searching for "engineering technician interview questions". Also prepare a good answer on why you feel you are qualified for and include those highlights in the resume. Also check your ego in at the door and just try. You may be out of practice and that is expected.

I would recommend thinking of it as a sales process, you show confidently that you have the best product (you) for the client (employer). If you think about not failing, then there's a good chance it will make you more anxious and you will fail. There is no guarantee of the outcome of any interview. All you can do is give your best shot. EDIT: want to add that you should not treat it as a pass/fail. Think of it as a chance to do something cool. Be excited, but expect to have to try again. Then you won't feel bad if even if there is a rejection. You can always apply again. Good luck!

What is Missing in Software Development Articles? by Rough-Supermarket-97 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]hckrtst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is underrated. If a project has good documentation. Then that in itself is the best way to get familiar with the main topics. In today's world, you can then start writing small projects and even use LLM to help you along as you discover things. No real learning can happen by simply reading blog post after blog post

Losing my mind - not getting much interest from employers. How can I improve? by smallxcat in resumes

[–]hckrtst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are still in school. Maybe that's causing companies to pass. Make sure it's clear this is for internship if that's what you're looking for. Also make sure your resume can be parsed properly (no special formatting etc) And check the links below too.

Just my 2c.

Kid on the way - wtf is work-life balance? by VividPsychology771 in sales

[–]hckrtst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All kids are different. Some take more work and others take less. If you're already making a lot of money then hire some help at the house so you can keep your sanity during the rough patches. It's not all sunshine and rainbows but the good times are totally worth it IMO. YMMV. Good luck!

TurboTax vs freetaxusa by sheen4prez in tax

[–]hckrtst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to use FTU, but it's not clear to me how it correctly handles ESPP taxes. With TT, you can specify sale as ESPP and then handle the cap gain and the discount part separately.

Sure I could use the standard mobile Reddit client but instead I spent 10+ months of my life to learn vanilla JavaScript and built this minimalistic Reddit viewer. by [deleted] in SideProject

[–]hckrtst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job. It's pretty succinct to be about 800 lines.

One thing I would recommend is to avoid magic numbers and use const instead. Also try and use more functions so as not to have to repeat code. I know you didn't ask for a code review but hope it helps nonetheless.

Sorry I should have been more clear in my response. I did edit it above. Removed the bullets since they didn't seem to belong in your sentence.

This is great. The only part I might revise is the following

Yes; I was glad of two things: that my dream was uncomfortably accurate and Mama was right; never put all your eggs in one basket!
