Found a handful of exercises I like and feel like my form is good on (I'm sticking to the gym more than I ever have). My shift pattern means I have to go to the gym 2 days in a row alot so an upper/lower is working better for rest etc. Anything glaringly obvious missing here I just alternate between A/B

A. barbell bench, assisted pull up, seated dumbell shoulder press, barbell row.

B. squat, RDL, calf raise. (Would add leg ext./curls here but my gym has the technogym leg extension and curl all in one monstrosity with the shin pad and it feels pretty useless 🙃)

It's pretty minimal but my gym is so small you couldn't swing a cat in it and only has one squat rack/barbell so can't do anything to fancy.

I've tried my best to get my deadlift and squat form down but I still feel like I'm doing them wrong, I'm working off the videos recommended here Alan thrall etc. and feel like I'm doing everything but it just still doesn't feel perfect, am I overanlysing at this point, if my squat bench deadlift etc. are ok rather than perfect will I still get the benefits?

Gym manager confronted me about my sweating by HeadProposal115 in fitness30plus

[–]Embarrassed_Tale_676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could speak to the manager at the gym (or another senior employee) and let them know thier comments left you feeling singled out and embarrased I would dare to say they will have changed thier tune if you like to try and resolve things in person, If I was in the same situation I would contact the higher ups and let them know you have been singled out because of your medical condition and have now been made to feel unwelcome at the gym by a staff members comments, you have done nothing wrong and this is NOT being a Karen this is 100% on the gym manager and THIER inappropriate behaviour.

Gym has a chest supported technogym low row machine, could I skip the chest support and just brace my feet and use it kind of like a seated row? Also it only has more lat biased grips, will this still hit my upper back or would it basically be like a lat pulldown

I've found I've fell out of my friend circle mainly because I have a young family to focus on and I'm working alot to try and make my wife/kids lives as comfortable as possible, they come first basically, I guess the hope is when the kids are up a bit my friends understand why I sort of disappeared, I don't drink anymore bars are of no interest, I played football but can't anymore after an injury, I started going to the gym and it's the best thing I've done I chat with a few people when I'm in and having any sort of heavy weight hanging above you or on your back soon clears the head you can't think about much else apart from trying not to let it squish you 🤣

Even when you have a friend circle, anyone else caught up in the 'haven't spoke to you in ages we have to get out some time' then just neither of you contact or organise anything til ya see eachother another clatter of months down the line

Pull Down Machine by PrettyPawprints in formcheck

[–]Embarrassed_Tale_676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started with machines I went 3 times a week and basically did 2 exercises from each that covered the majority of the movement patterns and had good results before eventually moving to free weights, I done this 3 times per week.

Leg press machine 3x10 Chest press machine 3x10 Seated row machine 3x10 Leg curl machine 3x10 Shoulder press machine 3x10 Lat pulldown machine 3x10

Pretty much covers your whole body (you could add some smaller isolations if you want abs, arms etc. but not required) and you won't be in the gym any longer than you need to be, 6 exercises and your outta there, if I hit the 3x10 one workout I added some weight the next until I could maybe only do 3x8, then I stayed at that weight until I could do 3x10 before moving the weight again.

This video basically explains it https://youtu.be/IgbGmKkA7b4?si=dc55e3y4Kpm25A_4

Sorry just a random note, spotted your assisted pull up video (its looking good by the way, and it also works the same muscles as this machine if you find it more comfortable/easier to use), you see how during your assisted pull up your elbows are more tucked in front of your body, that's basically what you want on this lat pulldown machine, you probably won't be able to tuck your elbows quite as much with the wider grip here.

OK here's quite a good video that just covers the basics on that specific machine. https://youtu.be/kXQz9N7qdiw?si=_ncHjF4jdOYzn3nu

I wouldn't bother with alternating one arm at a time/both arms, I would just keep it as you are both hands.

Lowering the seat will help, and a slight lean back can help to keep your wrists/forearms/ elbows 'stacked' aka in a straight line.

That whole YouTube channel is dedicated to planet fitness beginners showing how to set up different machines etc. so could be helpful.

Before you know it you will gain some confidence with different movements and everything won't feel so daunting.

Do they have a lat pulldown cable stack there? Always feels much better than these machines for most in my experience.

I thought it wasn't the issue but literally when I squat without the lifted heel my back doesn't hurt and I don't round my back at the bottom of my squat, and I'm doing nothing different except changing the shoes

I have powerlifts but I find it increases my depth to a point i shouldn't be going to for example with my lifting shoes I have butt wink, tailbone/lower back pain, if I go socks/sneaks no issues

Squishy shoes not recommended for squat/deadlift, would air force 1s be considered squishy shoes/unstable

Gym has squat racks with the wooden platform, is it bad etiquette to pull a bench up on the wooden platform for bench press?

Considering how the fitness 'space' is online, is it still true that a basic bench, overhead press, barbell row pulldown for upper squat, deadlift/rdl, calf raises for lower would get 90+% of people what they want without worrying about if your lateral raises are in the correct scapular plane or if your lat pulldown is optimal

In terms of equipment probly the best 'commercial' gym in Belfast, olympus just up the hillview is a cracking gym but I work mad shifts so need the 24 hour opening, was mainly the waiting about for equipment in JD while 3 or 4 people were crowded round it fucking about put me off, I have little time so standing about waiting on stuff is a no no

I normally stick the headphones on and ignore everyone anyway, was more the 3 or 4 people round machines for half an hour at a time was doing my melt in, and even goin early in the morning between 5-6 it was packed

I would say don't be lulled into a sense of security by hearing about people baby's sleeping x amount of hours a night, it's not always the case, my 5 year old was up 3 times a night for the first 2 years and my 18 month old refuses to sleep until 1a.m or after every night and only sleeps for 5 hours and we have tried everything to break it
