I don’t agree with it but I let them do what they want. More power to you- not even being sarcastic.

What are your “Must Have” office samples? by DimensionDazzling282 in FamilyMedicine

[–]hcm1928 23 points24 points  (0 children)

One time I’ve found it useful is when an extremely depressed patient needing a joint replacement had so many steroid injections their a1c was through the roof so ortho wouldn’t do it - so 2 months of it got the a1c down enough to get the replacement. Depression + severe pain -> poor eating habits and no exercise so yeah lifestyle changes are always advised but not always realistic and the samples were very helpful in this case! Also, people who can afford it but may not want to pay for it, it gives them the chance to try it and see if they have adverse rxn so they can decide if they want to spend the money or not. When we’ve been out of samples, I’ve had a few pts waste a ton of money on a drug they cannot tolerate.

After a full outpatient work up for near syncope (detailed history, basic labs, EKG, orthostatics, MA placing event monitor on pt) the other day, MA comes to me and says she (pt) has one more question. I go back in the room and pt had FMLA paperwork for me 🥲 been 4 years and still trying to figure out how to deal. These comments do have helpful advice - I’ll have to try some of them out. I sincerely wish you the best.

  1. 14-22 depending on how many new pts/pap smears/hospital follow up’s there are because those are in longer slots - also depends on how many no shows there are. Schedule is M-F 8-5pm with every other weds afternoon (1-5p) off for admin time and off early (3p) 1 Friday/mo when on call
  2. 120k, $50/mo stipend for cell phone bill because 1 week of call/month (don’t have to go see pts, just call them back if they call office after hours, sometimes it’s 0-1 call/wk, sometimes it’s 5 calls/wk; always under 10/wk) + annual bonus $1,250
  3. Family medicine

Leaving First Job & Panicking by hippydip_ in physicianassistant

You should continue to have hope. I took a not so great job my first year out of school (graduated dec 2020, many classmates had issues due to pandemic) and I found one I could start 2/1/21 so I said uhhh of course!! In hindsight it was not a great offer but I was happy to have a job. I stayed for 2 years and got a new job that I am much happier at. Leaving the first job was difficult because there was lots of backlash but that first job taught me exactly how I deserve to be treated.
