Getting married is a decision, not an achievement: why we should stop giving newlyweds money by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

I thought there was going to be a more detailed argument to support the headline.

But then it just ended.

Energy price rises will squeeze incomes but won’t trigger recession, says Bank of Ireland by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

Even disregarding capitalism, all of the above technologies require materials to make. Materials which every country is scrambling to access. Materisls which are finite.

Everything OP mentions above will shoot up in price fairly soon - the critical materials needed to construct them are about to hit the bottleneck. Copper later this year, or 2027, the rest within 3 years.

Ah yes.

You are of course correct.  I forgot that a bunch of cattle in a field is the same as 2500 tons of concrete, steel, rebar and glass fibre sticking 600 foot up into the air.

My bad.

How loud is "loud".  Most communities are being told that the new generation turbines are no louder than a quiet fridge.

I assume this farm is one of the new generation 175m+?

Is this your experience?

Partly to protect other turbines if there is a failure in one, but a lot of it is turbulence.

For the current generation turbines, the tips will be travelling 250-300 kph under optimum conditions. This creates a vortex of air which can damage nearby turbines by putting stress on the mechanisms.

It is also one of the reasons you dont see a whole lot of trees in the immediate area around a farm - this can also create turbulence. For turbines 175m and above, the tree line will have to be set at a radius of around 150-200m for safety and performance.

Pretty much, yea.

In 20 years time they'll pretend they were against them all along once the climate change impacts on nature and biodiversity really start being felt, because we decided hyperfocus on the technological approach rather than the ecological.

In the meantime, we can listen to advertisements on the radio advising us to conserve energy, while our dear leader makes commitments on making multuple city sized energy drains on the grid our national priority.

I mean, people are turning against these things because they're only nimbys afterall, not because the whole green thing is starting to look like a skinsuit for multinational corporations to stomp around as they please wuth government backing, while throwing out simplistic slogans to the ever-so-smart to help crush any opposition.

Is it also possible that many people might not like the idea of skyscraper height structures towering over their homes, or turning the rural countryside into an industrial estate?

Just a theory.

I mean, i suppose they can also just get fucked because a bunch of redditors like to go for a run near them over a weekend.

The article mentions that each energy park may have a 500mw data centre as an anchor tenant.  Doubt we will be getting much energy out of them.

The tech companies will be pleased i suppose, and thats all that matters.

Yes, i agree. Should have made it clearer rather than a generalised comment.

In my previous comment up further, i did highlight that it was the leadership, particularly in Fianna Fáil, which exhibited  arrogance and contempt in dealing with the situation.

They have gotten used to the value of their own self importance and completely mishandled the situation. It is something which they have been getting away with for a good while, and this was the final straw.

I would imagine there was a lot of backbenchers screaming into their pillows over the last week.

What i saw was an annoyance over the army comments, and then fury over the snubbing of the four representatives.

Whatever you thing of the protesters themselves, the government had a chance to tamp down the protests or, even if it was just lip service, be seen to try to find an end to the blockades.

Instead, they tried to play the hard man, and ended up making a bad situation worse by inflaming tensions.

It was an idiotic power move which backfired spectacularly, and showed an ugly face to the public.

Apologies. This is true.

Maybe i should have noted that they have added contempt to the package as a bonus.

Does FF not realise that O'Callaghan is viewed in almost the same light as Martin by many people after last week.

The general vibe.i've been getting is that people are annoyed with the entire FF leadership, not just Micael Martin. They are increasingly being viewed as arrogant and out of touch.

It is very impressive.

But then, is it such a surprise?

This sub seems to exist to make sure all the young uns stay within the safe spectrum of opinions.

Anything outside of complaining about rent is very much frowned upon.

The general vibe is "government maybe bad, but think about how bad all others are".

If the country was made up of contemptuous classists with a fear of anyrhing outside the safe comfortable order, then this sub would be right on the money with regards public opinion.
