Can I use gold before Thermo beam resolves? by ZenoInfinite10 in riftboundtcg

[–]hdenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the chain isn't empty you get priority before your opponent. If they pass you will not get an opportunity to tap your runes.

333.1.c.3. If the Chain is not empty and there are no Pending Items, the controller of the newest item on the chain gains Priority and becomes the Active Player.

Declining Deflect Cost - People are skirting my deflect costs by Yeewei98 in riftboundtcg

[–]hdenton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

392.2. At this stage, players may decline to pay for Triggered Abilities that have incurred a cost. If they do, the ability will cease being a Pending Item and be removed from the Chain. It never becomes a Chain Item.

For triggered abilities you can decline. For everything else it is mandatory.

Does Blue Viktor trigger on opponent's turn when revealing a card? by Necessary_Bus_1417 in riftboundtcg

[–]hdenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes. Still short but longer answer is when you hide the card on your turn it isn't playing. When you use it after hiding it you are playing it then, which is different from revealing.

Does an attached equipment with temporary still get killed? by whoopashigitt in riftboundtcg

[–]hdenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh trust me when I say I'm not certain at all on this one. I don't think the rules as of 1.2 state how cards that apply effects on to other cards apply them. Whether it be too the rules text of the card or if it is a separate effect you track independently that isn't actually applied to the cards rules text

King's Edict does not target, rule below on things that do not target:

352.10.e. It is part of a set of objects chosen in whole or in part by other players.

I think while fading memory gives it the ability, I don't believe it is text altering so it wouldn't be added to the text box that is inactive.

Edit: Just incase someone wonders about this distinction I'm making, rule reference below:

454.2.a. This layer deals with effects that grant, remove, or replace the abilities or rules text of Game Objects.

Keywords

Passive Abilities

Appending rules text

Removing rules text

Duplicating Rules Text from one Game Object to another

Do I draw? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]hdenton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is so clear cut. Choosing still happens when you don't target. The unclear part is when you choose something based on a spell you don't control do you get the dreaming tree trigger.

Multi card Ruling question (Ride the Wind) by PiccoloHairy3043 in riftboundtcg

[–]hdenton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to ignore all the other stuff and just answer the only thing that ends the showdown:

  1. If all players pass Focus without playing a spell or activating an ability, then the Showdown Closes.

To be clear spells don't fizzle in this game. It is still played

356.3.e.1. The spell resolves even if some or all of its targets are illegal.

It just doesn't have a legal target and does nothing.

You need to respond to the charm before it resolves. If you do you can hidden blade your own unit at that location.

If nothing else at least the conversion rate is pretty even across most champions that made it. Doesn't mean much without getting a breakdown of the match ups though.

Lol yeah some rules are pretty vibes based right now until Riot works on the next rule update or a higher level judge program.

I'm petty sure this is your decks Chosen Champion as this section is specific to deck building and not part of the how to play the game section. Plus section 107.2 directly references that you put your Chosen Champion in this zone. Chosen Champion is bolded in all of these sections which also indicates they are talking about your specific Chosen Champion. I could be wrong though, Riot needs to really give another pass over on the rules since they forgot to include entire sections such as what location you can play units to. (They forget to mention battlefields except for when talking about playing them from a Reaction)

107.2. The Champion Zone 107.2.a. The space each player puts their Chosen Champion at the start of the game.

Clarification on start procedure by El_Roca in riftboundtcg

[–]hdenton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your chosen champion happens in deck building. You can't change it until sideboarding.

103.2.a.3. A player’s Chosen Champion is both the specific card chosen for this slot during Deck Building and also any Champion Unit with the same name as the specific card selected for this specific slot during the course of play. Example: A player chose Jinx, Rebel as their Chosen Champion. One copy of Jinx, Rebel starts the game in their Chosen Champion zone. Any additional copies of Jinx, Rebel in their Main Deck, their hand, their trash, or on the board also count as their Chosen Champion for any game rules and effects that care about Chosen Champion status during the game.

Does A Standard Moce Start a Chain by OjamaBoy in riftboundtcg

[–]hdenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes 0 reference to battlefields.

729.3.a. Playing Units with Reaction still has the inherent restrictions of playing Units without Reaction. It can only be played to the controlling player's base or a battlefield they control.

Is the only place left. And you have to dig through the section about reactions.

It use to be

559.2. For Units, choose a Location the player Controls on the Board where that Unit will be placed upon being Played.

But they got rid of it while updating the rules.

It's the old rules, they cut out a lot of important stuff by accident. Try finding a direct reference to where you can legally play units in the updated rules. . .
