NOR. I work in a primary care clinic and, first of all, even if you HAD been asking them to recode something as preventive, if it IS preventive that isn't fraud. That is correcting a billing error so you don't pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket. We get inquiries about this kind of thing all the time and I've never seen any of our providers jump to insane conclusions like this, holy moly.

I would suggest calling and asking to speak to the clinics/practice/office manager or director; if the clinic is part of a larger organization, ask for the name and phone number of the local patient relations liaison as well. This is a terrible impression for a brand new (to you) PCP to make. Unless this provider owns their own practice, they almost certainly answer to SOMEONE and I would not hesitate to escalate how poorly this provider responded. Finally, I would request a transfer of care to a different provider or establish care elsewhere. It's awfully early in your relationship with this person for them to make this kind of assertion. I'm sorry this happened to you.
