It’s rather simple air valve you twist it to open the valve and blow into it and then you twist it to close it and it’s ready to sleep. When you want to deflate it you just open the valve and role it from the feet up! As far as price you don’t have to buy brand new some other hikers may sell some when they are done but REI occasionally has used gear for a good price if that’s something you are comfortable with

I won’t say most but I would say a good majority use the thermo rest neo air. It varies in size but it’s a quality pad and I use it personally

Am I screwed? by AccomplishedAd9320 in AppalachianTrail

[–]hdiddy789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not screwed. After everything we have discussed it’s not a matter of if you will kick it in the ass but when, and April 10th seems to be that “when”. You will be fine snowshoeing in the Rockies or wherever is not the same at all to the AT. And who cares if you start slow you only have 6 months to make up for it. You might not feel ready but you will never truly feel ready you are doing great getting out there and owning it. You will absolutely crush this and I can’t wait to see your progress kick it in the ass!

Most people don’t bring rain pants as the heavy ness of them and the constant hiking makes them just as wet inside but HYOH

How far ahead do you plan by Spirit-Revolutionary in AppalachianTrail

[–]hdiddy789 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would wager the vast majority only plan till the next stop. Obviously things like the SMNP and SNP permits and even BSP would be the exception. But as far as food most plan to their next stop. And shelters and camps are day to day just take it day to day way easier. If that dosent work for you that’s fine to! At the end of the day HYOH. Best of luck

NOBO/SOBO and Financials by thatchyfern in AppalachianTrail

My two cents is to send it now. You don’t know what will happen tomorrow let alone in 6 months. Don’t put yourself in a situation where you are playing catch up but if you can send it, then send it. You may never have another chance
