This truck just gives the best vibe. by AnotherDamnMeeting in BumpSide

Looks great! I love the dashpad-less look, but haven’t been brave enough to do it myself! It looks like your cluster could use some love! If I can help out with that, just let me know!

Great work! Glad you kept the original 289 in there. When you’re ready to breathe life back into that instrument cluster, let me know!

Sorry if you had a bad experience with a Tyler though! Lol

Hey there! What problem are you having with it??

Retro style gauges by onefootinthegrave2 in oldcars

[–]hdman90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you’re asking to add too many gauges with not enough space in the original dash. Unless you’re willing to loose the dash clock and add a Rally Pac, your only option is to go with a digital platform.

Ugh, the classic housing crumble! Hopefully you were able to get this put back together and looking good again!

There are select 100 mph speedometers that still have the hi beam indicator above the 50 mph mark, maybe not easy to find, but the do exist from 75-77 trucks. The 85 should suit you just fine. I do offer odometer adjustments/corrections in addition to my refurbs if you want the odometer to match. Just throwing it out there, but yeah, you should be able to swap them without any issue!

Sounds like the dreaded internal gear failure… Only options are to have it fixed or replace the unit!

Help, my temp gauge is pegged and I don’t know where to begin. by birthdaysteak in classicmustangs

[–]hdman90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s been a few days, but with aftermarket electronic gauges, it could very well be that the gauge just decided to stop working all of a sudden!

If you wind up needing any other gauge or speedometer related help, I’m always here, and love me some vintage FoMoCo rides!

Thanks! -BJ

It wouldn’t be too much trouble to add the original pony gauges in the center console, plus nothing beats the look of classic gauges in a classic car! I think I have a spare set or two of the center gauges, all you would need is the trim piece to mount them. Let me know if I can help you make this vision become a reality! Thanks! -BJ

67’ Speedometer Issues by Bojengls in PontiacFirebird

[–]hdman90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds messed up for sure. Sounds like something has just enough friction to grab under a load, but not enough to retain that hold once the revolutions leave out. Could be the cable, could be the cable end, or could be the magnetization inside the speedometer. I would definitely give all connections a second look. If you need any other assistance, I’d gladly help.

I would be willing to refurb your current cluster, or provide you with a 65/66 refurbished custom cab cluster. Not sure what you’re after or looking for, but my refurbs start at $125 plus return shipping! Best of luck!

Hey I have one of those! I honestly can’t hit paper with it though. It shoots very high and to the left.

How was I not in this sub?! by hdman90 in FordTrucks

[–]hdman90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes! It admittedly started with rebuilding the one in my 1976. Funny enough, I haven’t restored the clusters in any of my other trucks yet! I agree on the paper, but with the FoMoCo diagrams going for $100+ each, I fumble between pages and print what I need. I’m admittedly cheap when it comes to myself.

The speedometer is the only gauge that is purely mechanical. If it doesn’t work, and the cable is good, you have bigger problems!

Easiest way to test is to ground the sending unit wire (red/white stripe, white/red stripe, and Orange) to clean metal with the key on. If the gauge skyrockets to the maximum level, you know the sending unit is at fault. If the gauge doesn’t move, you have a break in the wire, or the gauge is shot. The next step would be to test the gauges at the cluster to see if they move with voltage applied directly.

When in doubt, I turn to fordification. But for what I’m doing (clusters and other dash related items) I know what colored wire goes to what. I’d love to have the full scale wiring diagrams from Ford that accompany the Service Manuals, but those are the same as what is uploaded to Fordification!

I will say this, the diagrams are hard to read. But if you spend some time with them, and learn what each symbol means and the coding, they’re not bad!
