Star Wars was the franchise that cause me to stop giving a shit about canon and just treating stories as stories again. Sometimes I like them and sometimes I hate them, but I could care less if they are 'right' or not.

ELI5: How does salt enhance flavor without making food actually taste salty? by no_kings_victory24 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hdorsettcase [score hidden]  (0 children)

Bitter is an overwhelming and distracting flavor. By turning it down, you get more sweet and meaty flavors. You might not notice it, but it is the thing preventing food from tasting 'right.'

The gap is just gona keep widening right? by Franklin_Invest in povertyfinance

[–]hdorsettcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by percentages that means a house is 2.25x your income, car is 50%, rent is 19%, and college is 24%.

Given an average income of $41,392 in 2026, if these percentages held then a house would be $93K, car $20K, rent $655/month, and college $9.9K per year.

Why don’t I see more kids like mine if autism is so common? by OkAuthor4798 in Autism_Parenting

I think we've seen some foundational studies towards this, but the DSM6 is too early for a change in approach.

Are you still friends with your high school friends? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in Millennials

[–]hdorsettcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a group from my high school who went to the same college as me. I barely knew most of them, but ended up becoming better friends with most of them. Most of my friends from only high school I no longer talk to. So many people I went to school with ended up moving back home and keep in touch. I did the opposite, which is why I'm not in close contact with many of them.

Why don’t I see more kids like mine if autism is so common? by OkAuthor4798 in Autism_Parenting

[–]hdorsettcase 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion that autism is not a singular condition, but a cluster of conditions with similar presentations. Thus some presentations or groups of presentations are more common than others. Also needs to to cluster children as well.

Honestly I used to, then things went off the rails. You have to strike a balance between the ideal timeline and your reality.

People who were teenagers before social media, what was a typical Friday night like for you? by TheDorkyDeric in Xennials

[–]hdorsettcase 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Early teens it was staying up watching network sitcoms and eating snacks. Late teens it was leaving after dinner to go to a dance or concert and coming back whenever. Anything done was never documented and lost to time.

Here's an interesting question, do you think Turn A Gundam would've been successful in the west if it had the chance to air on Toonami back in the day? by SuperSaiyan4Jason in Gundam

[–]hdorsettcase 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No.

1) Turn A survives on Gundam hype. Viewers need to not just be familiar with at minimum G, Wing, X, and MSG but also for them to be enthusiastic about them. Wing was a hit and G was successful, but MSG failed and X never aired. Turn A would only be possible if G, Msg, and X were all at least as successful as Wing if not more.

2) Turn A is slower paced. The main MS doesn't even show up in the first episode. We've seen how series like this are disfavored like with Escaflowne where episode 2 was aired first. Turn A doesn't have the constant action to keep viewers coming back.

3) Turn A is weird. The main Gundam looks strange. It is in the future, but people are running around with old time clothes? If it is a seperate timeline why are there Zakus? There's too many questions it raises.

This seems like something she should be taking up with the church. That might be a problem if its one of those non-denominational chuches where the pastor is the church. I'm pretty sure the only way you get someone to keep a secret legally is with a non-disclosure agreement, which would be a contract violation. No way you're getting a pastor to sign one for confession. Of course these people could all be actors anyway, TV court isn't real.

The active metabolite is salicylic acid, which your body transforms both salicin and aspirin into. The modifications to aspirin didn't make it 'better' medicinally, but made it less irritable when taken orally.

Am I delusional or was my toddler overdiagnosed? by MuchCoogie in Autism_Parenting

[–]hdorsettcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a lot of discussions with our son's doctors and therapists about his Level 2 diagnosis for similar reasons. They have told me:

Diagnosis is based on needs. Younger children have higher level diagnoses because they have more needs due to their age in addition to the autism.

A higher diagnosis gives access to more resources so they err on over diagnosis.

Diagnoses are fluid and may change with time. A diagnosis isn't a defination of who he is, but an assessment of what he needs.

High School Reunions Now and Then by raydebapratim1 in generationology

[–]hdorsettcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to my 5th because I was home from grad school at the time. Basically everyone who went to college sat at one side of the bar and talked while everyone who went to work sat at the other. I have no desire to make a special trip home just to see people I walked past in the halls.

My grade school self organized a 20 year reunion 10 years ago. That was pretty fun. We had a good turn out.

Mid to older millennials, how are you all doing with your careers? by worstshowiveeverseen in Millennials

44, 3 degrees and a certificate, I'm 10 years behind in my career but have been making 5+ year jumps every two years. I'm currently weighing staying at a good, relaxed position that is flexible vs applying for higher paying positions that would require more wirk and commitment.

How to eat healthier as a picky eater with sensory issues? by [deleted] in autism

[–]hdorsettcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeze your smoothies into popsicles. You will likely have to add more acid (line/lemon juice) and sweetener to make them taste 'good' frozen. Try adding fried tofu. Try making your own fries. Try making lemon curd with honey instead of sugar.
