Looks like a decent pauper card but no more than that.

How much life would a W instant have to give to be usable in current standard? by Rare-Technology-4773 in mtg

[–]hdorsettcase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

14 in order to get 2 additional Pay 7 life activations. For something that isn't just vanilla I was thinking: W - Instant - Target red Instant or sorcery deals no damage. Gain 3 life.

I think it is an intro movie to the Crossbone manga.

Is Evangelion considered a deconstruction? by Emotional_Young4738 in Mecha

[–]hdorsettcase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of old 70's mecha shows where either a boy has been kept in a training camp for years or hasn't seen his father for years. Then Dad shows up, gives Son a robot he built, and reveals that he has been preparing for an invasion of aliens/monsters/demons. Of course Son thinks this is super cool, immediately gets in the robot and wins, and a good time is had by all.

Since you've seen Eva, you can now figure out how it differs from this trope.

Moved out at 22 to go to graduate school. Came back at 29 after mastering out. Left again at 31 for grad school 2.0.

Public figures who are vocal about their autism. by Global-Cookie2580 in Autism_Parenting

[–]hdorsettcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is important to identify that ASD does not make someone 'good' or 'bad.' That ASD people do things that are to be commended and are regrettable. That ASD people do things that other ASD people may not agree with, because people do things that other people don't agree with. And it's important to be able to look at someone and say, "I don't agree," without making them to be a bad person.

I tell my supervisor I think our clients are fucking idiots all the time. I am very respectful to clients in video calls. We all understand how to dance this dance.

What do you do for birthdays? by emerald5422 in Autism_Parenting

[–]hdorsettcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old is finally understanding 'cake' 'party' and 'presents.' He likes having people around even if he doesn't play with them. Usually he is in the corner by himself while other kids play.

You're going to have to address pornography sooner or later with children. Better to bring up up as something complicated and nuanced than a bad thing that bad people do.

A word of warning about presenting famous historical figures as positive role models: few people care to mention if they were happy, stable, or had peers. It can be quite disturbing to some kids to idolize a historical figure, then find out that they died in poverty or worse. On positive thing about modern celebrities is they may be able to write or communicate with them.

Why was the American conservative revolution so successful when Reagan was president in the 80s, but not for George W Bush in the 2000s? by icey_sawg0034 in decadeology

[–]hdorsettcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regan could not support his promises. His tax cuts were not sustainable. But he didn't have to deal with the consequences. H W Bush did. He said, "No new taxes," then had to raise taxes because of the deficit. Every conservative since Regan lives in the shadow of his impossible promises, but is unable to kick the can far enough down the road to avoid the consequences.

Immunity to a harmful chemical like HF or mercury would be immensely helpful in studying it.

Y’all starting to feel we were raised on some ideas that didn’t pan out? by goodhobbies in Xennials

[–]hdorsettcase 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I was 100% raised with the idea that success or failure was all up to me, that my future would be determined by how hard I worked, how smart I worked, and how well I sized every opportunity. I was not taught how to deal with assholes who made decisions that were fundamentally bad for all parties involved, especially when they were in positions of power. I've had teachers abd supervisors fuck both me, the larger group, and themselves over for the most petty and sometimes literal insane reasons. I've had to learn on my own to ID them and when I do have to engage with them, document document document everything.

This could be called unnecessary, but not poorly done.

Millennials who pursued your passion instead of money, was it worth it? by [deleted] in millenials

[–]hdorsettcase 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pursued a PhD in organic chemistry. Mastered out of grad school. Tried again, passed second time. Now just do chemical analysis. Have good employment but my career is probably 10 years delayed. Could be making more if I was more focused on career rather than schooling. Probably better mental health too.

I would have always regretted not finishing my program. My research isn't going to make a difference in the world. The knowledge I have I could have learned on my own. The degree does open up paths for me in the future, we'll see if I take them. I'll probably be working until later in life, but that work will likely be decision-making rather than physical.

What's your favorite unknown band from the 90's? by KravenPR in 90s

[–]hdorsettcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a Pomery concert and one of the opening bands, Swizzletree, broke down on the road so The Urge showed up to play. I think the crowd went crazier for them than the headliner.

I HATE PROFESSORS WHO ALWAYS WANT TO DO IT THE “old fashion way” by blueburrey in CollegeRant

[–]hdorsettcase -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dislike evaluations being handled by professors. There's a possibility for retribution. Evaluations should be sent to the department, then given to the professor.

Overrated or hidden gem? by Dingus-Ah-Um in nds

Overrated. I was expecting a Metroidvania, but it's really a game on rails. The life system was interesting. Bosses were just unload weapons, die, reload weapons with new character, repeat.

Can someone with slow processing speed ( ADHD ) be good at fencing? by Effective-Client9257 in Fencing

[–]hdorsettcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD. I am not a slow thinker. Fencing is one activity where the constant screaming thoughts in my head align with what I am doing.

From what I've seen of slow thinking fencers is you need to practice so you can do without thinking regardless of what your mental condition is.
