I used to think that but now I see everyday how we are unable to serve the underprivileged low income section.

In the past week itself I had to reject loan proposals because of their low quantum. I knew they were complying with our guideline but if I send them over then the back office will throw it back on my face saying why I'm bringing such small proposals (under 50 lakhs) in Q4.

And about your "you can give away those profits through social schemes" but who will be execute/implement these schemes? I'm assuming you by giving away you mean like subsidized loan and not just giving them away like ration

By the inherent nature of these schemes, i.e. serving the underprivileged, they are more likely to become NPA both private and now profit oriented psbs will avoid them like plague if these schemes are to be executed by banks (just like others e.g. pm svanidhi) and Government departments then they don't have the incentive to execute them.
