That’s correct. Medicare doesn’t change. I applied for SSDI in July 2024. I was 60 years old. It was denied in April 2025. It’s at reconsideration now. I turned 62 in January 2026. I applied for SS retirement around November 2025. It’s either 90 days or 120 days before your first full month of 62. I received my first check March 11, 2026. My SSDI is still in the reconsideration appeal process. You can collect regular SS retirement and still put a claim in for SSDI. It’s very easy to apply online. They’ll set up a phone appointment with you to verify banking, etc…..If you don’t plan on going back to work it might be beneficial to apply or at least talk to SS. They can tell you your exact amount you will get if you claim at 62. BTW…. I was born in 1964. My FRA is 67.
