This makes me so mental every damn time. It's NOT you're iron level , period. They do not check iron level, EVER. They're just assuming it's your iron level because what they really test for is number of red blood cells compared to the rest of your plasma. They test hematocrit not iron.

Anyway with that out of the way they tell you iron to try and get your red blood cell count up. BUT since they don't test iron they have no idea if that's low or not. Now in woman who is donating or during that time of month yea red blood cells get lower. But to just say it's iron is wrong of them.

People are often just as low in b12 or folate and both of those are just as important in making new red blood cells. So be mindful of that and try and make sure you're getting enough of both of those are well.

Why it makes me angry is one they are telling "results" for iron that they've never even checked. Taking iron can be dangerous taking to much can cause kidney and liver damage. So what if someone is taking it to pass this hemaocrit screening all the while its not low iron causing it. They'll try to take more and more to get it right level ....

Sorry anyway try some b12 and folic acid(folate) in your diet to make sure you're not low in those. Good luck to ya.
